Tan Help!!!

Tan Help!!!

Postby NM2011 » Mon May 14, 2022 1:56 pm

Hi Girls

Really need some help

i am getting married in august. we are heading to portugal a couple days after the wedding.
i am really fair skinned and never use fake tans cos they never look right.

i dont know what to do about the wedding. i def want a colour but would also like a colour for the holiday.

as i never use fake tans i'm not great at applying them anyway. i was hoping to use the moisturisers that gradually build a tan. i showered, exfoliated and used the garnier one on my legs and after 1 application it looked horrendous. streaky, orange and didnt take everywhere. My sister recommends the dove summer glow so i will try it once this horrible colour fades away.

has anyone any advice what to do? Even if the dove one works it will be great for the wedding but theres a swimming pool at our apartment in portugal, so am i mad for even bothering with a fake tan on hol? im so self conscious about how i look and would def prefer a light tan on hols but im at wits end with what to do O:|

any advice appreciated x

try acadame - its a liquid, i used it and i never do fake tans because they always look awful on me - im very pale and freckly! you sponge it on and you can see how dark it is as you put it on - its very good i would highly reccomend it. you might need your sister or oh to help you get the awkward places!

Hey NM,

i dunno. if you're very fair skinned, I wouldn't want to be relying on the extreme sun directly before the wedding to get a colour or you could end up sunburnt (or with strap marks) (not to mention the long term consequences). i'd be inclined to pile on the SPF and stick on a hat & avoid it.

for applying fake tan i couldn't recommend enough getting the spongy applicator mitts! they're the ones with the orange back - you can get them in penneys for 2 or 3 euro. they really help to avoid streaking and getting your hands marked.

for the tan itself, i use st. tropez bronzing mousse, but, i've also tried st moriz tanning mousse (also available in penneys for about 7 euro) & it's equally as good. (have heard fakebake also works well on pale skin). i tried the medium/dark in the st moriz as i'm kind of sallow & it didn't come out very dark, so i think if you were very pale the light/medium should be ok. the mousse is coloured dark brown, which makes it easy to see if you've missed any spots. apply with the mitt and blend in well around elbows, back of your neck, hands, feet & ankles. i don't apply much directly on my face, usually just wipe residual tan off the mitt onto my face so it's not too dark. leave to develop overnight, then shower off the next morning (scrub it off!) & you should be left with a nice even colour. that's my routine if i'm ever applying it anyway & it usually works for me!

Hi
I too am worried about fake tans as in the past I've never been happy with the spray tans I have used. I recently came across a brand new fake tan called Vita Liberata. It was reviewed on a beauty forum I look at. Basically it's a tan that you put on with a mitt, go to sleep, wake up with a tan the next morning and hop in the shower. There is no fake tan smell and if you reapply it 24 hours after the first application it lasts for 2-3 weeks. It is expensive but as the tan lasts for a few weeks you end up using less I guess. I am trying it out at the moment, I bought it online. I applied it on Saturday night - got OH to do my back. Then I reapplied it on Sunday night. And it looks great. Didn't streak and it is a natural sun glow rather than orangey fakey looking. Won't know for another week or two how long it lasts. At the moment it is top of my list for my wedding day next year. I'm not a regular fake tan applier either so I was happy with the way it turned out. I have in the past used the moisturisers that give you a gradual tan but I hate the smell and the way it wears off in patches. Seemingly this new one will fade without patchiness, it's a mousse as well which is easier to apply.
When I researched the fake tan the key thing I kept hearing was exfoliate and moisturise in the run up to the tan but no exfoliation/moisturising/shaving for 24 hours before the tan. Products upset the PhD balance in the skin and this can contribute to the orangey looking result. Anyway hope this helps.

I could have written your post! I am soo white and I really want a glow for the wedding. I tried Rockstar tan a couple of months ago and it came out terrible, all patchy...I tried a Vita Liberata spray tan over the weekend, and its brilliant! It looks best a couple of days after, so I reckon I will get mine done on Thursday (the wedding is a Saturday). They have 3 shades, and I chose medium - its just perfect, really natural.
