Hello!

I can't believe it! My gorgeous boyfriend (now fiancé!) just popped the question and now he's whisking me off to Galway to buy a ring!

I'm wondering if anyone from the area could recommend any jewellers? Are there any that are particular good value? We don't want to spend a fortune but want something elegant, even antique!

I'd really appreciate any help at all! I'm so excited I could burst!

Congratulations!

Hartmanns would be a popular place with lovely rings, might not be too value conscious in there though, Cobwebs would be a good spot for antique rings and generally gorgeous stuff.

you should definately visit Diamonds and Gold its on Cross Street in the city Centre, they are very good value and have a good selection and will also make a ring for you to suit your budget if you want. they have a website www.diamondsandgoldireland.com
Also Cara Diamonds , they are located in Briarhill Shopping Centre , its near Galway Racecourse on the east side of the city near the motorway , you may pass it on way into galway if coming from Dublin or the south. They get their rings from Dubai and will also make any ring to suit your budget . Although i didnt end up getting my ring in galway ( and i live there ) i would recommend these 2 shops.. There are a few more shops on Shop Street. hartmans , Lazlos, Blacoes and Claddagh Jewllers. Happy Shopping !! Do visit a few places before yoyu settle on one!!

Check out Foxford Jewellers in the Corbet Court Shopping centre, it's a pretty new premises but they have been about Foxford for a fair while, we got our ring made with them and it's the best thing since sliced pan...now maybe I'm a bit biased though!!!! :yelrotflmaosmilie:

Hi congrats on your engagement. I would also recommend cara jeweller. We got my engagement there and recently picked out our wedding bands as well. The owner and staff are really nice and we got a good deal on the price of them as well :)

Just reading over some reviews from Cara Diamonds in Galway, i can honestly say throughout the whole experience of dealing with them we had a complete nightmare from day one. we had purchased our engagement ring in the dubai Cara diamonds which is run separately to the Galway shop, we had no problems what so ever with the Dubai store, they were a dream to deal with.

The Galway store were a completely different ball game. they caused us so much unnecessary stress and were rude and unprofessional in their dealings with us. They had my engagement ring for 14 weeks - which i did not sign up for! i was told 6 weeks, Max 8 they would need it to make my wedding band.

My husbands wedding ring was made 3 sizes too big for him and we literally got it back a number of days before our wedding after more frustrating calls. we received rude emails from them, had numerous broken promises and excuse after excuse about what was going on.

I can only say that i would tell any people considering there to run a mile, they have no respect for their customers and at the end of the day didn't care less about how they treated us.

Hi you've probably bought your ring already but for what it's worth for whoever else is looking to buy an engagement ring in Galway this was my experience recently..

Hartmans staff were excellent to deal with, very helpfull and full of advice. They have some stunning rings. Prices are not as steep as everyone makes out and they are having a renovation sale at the moment so jewellery reduced by 20-50%.

In Lazlo's opposite Hartmans, the staff again were great to deal with. Prices are average/reasonable. Staff were prompt in getting back to me with further information on certain products. I dealt with Ann who knows her stuff and gave me a few price options.

I don't agree with mrslofty with regards Foxford jewellery in the Eyre Square Centre. I found them terrible to deal with. Prices seemed a bit above average on rings instore.
I waited for nearly two weeks for them to get back to me with a price on a ring to be made in platinum, and in the end I had to call them. From the information they gave it was obvious they hadn't even referred to the notes they took the day I called in to them.
They have yet to get back with the right information I requested!! It seems to me they don't want the business they have been that flippant and careless.

I found Cara Jewellers good to deal with so I'm surprised about the experience
charliebrown had with them. Great selection of rings but if you don't find something you like there their goldsmiths in Dubai can make up anything. Prices very competitive especially with regards platinum. I found great reviews about them on this forum so decided to check them out.

Hope this helps someone.
