Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant
Re: Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant
sleep orgasims?!?! never heard that one before
1. not being able to stay awake past 9pm no matter what! 2. the closeness you feel with your partner is amazing - you feel like you're in your own little world. 3. the fact that some people will think it's perfectly fine to touch your belly without asking. VERY annoying and an invasion of personal space. It drove me crazy!!! (anyone else?) 4. morning sickness is not just for morning time and can go on all day make going to work hell (hopefully you will have an understanding boss!) 5. you may get black hair on your belly - don't worry it will go away after baby comes! 6. crying at the drop of a hat. then laughing for no reason. agh hormones CAPTURE SAVE & SHARE YOUR PRICELESS LITTLE MEMORIES

hi all,
This is fantastic I have got loads of anwers for my million questions. Ist pg and so excited xxx
Re: Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant
That being pregnant is 'sore'. I was prepared for the MS and the tiredness. But never heard of stretching pains or random cramps. I've only done 1 trimester and the cramps and pains were very frequent and very sore!!!! Most often at night, so that i couldnt sleep and that just adds to the already immense tiredness!!
Not really complaining. Very happy to be pg! Re: Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant

How overheated you are especially from about 24 weeks. HB says I'm like a radiator.
(TMI) How sweaty and smelly you get despite showering twice a day How puffy and panty you become from something as simple as climbing the stairs. How swollen your feet and ankles look by the end of the day..... The itchy belly
Re: Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant
Well the books are pretty good. I had a good pregnancy with my DS, who was born in May. Before him I had 2 misc. SO I was, naturally very worried until I got to at least 15 weeks & saw a "baby" on the scan, with an actual profile! my DS was transverse (another position they don't cover much actually!), so I had to have a c-section but everything was fine. I think the one thing they "don't" tell you about pregnancy, is how much your family worry about you! It was only after my DS arrived safe & sound that my mum told me they were frantic for the nine months. IN fairness, I was 36, with 2 failed pregnancies, they had every right to be worried! But the nausea was so bad I knew it was a good sign. I'm so pleased for my own parents, they have their first grandchild, & I wish they didn't have to see me go thru the miscarriages & be upset/ upset for me. Thank God it all worked out. THats the thing about pregnancy books, they don't cover enough of real life......

That you will become completely neurotic (hopefully Im not on my own here ) about the craziest things - from what you eat to where you will eat it etc.
And that 'helpful' and all as the babybooks are, they can sometimes fuel the neurosis and make you worry more. For example: reading about what food additives I should avoid in the 'what to eat when your expecting' one night, I thought "cool, I know what to stay away from when im doing the shopping' - 10 mins later I was trying to mentally recall every morsel that crossed my lips prior to reading that chapter Thank goodness for dh who a) puts up with this and b) rationalizes my worries for me!!
Re: Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant
That morning sickness is anything but and can last all day (and night, waking up in the middle of the night feeling queasy was a surprise). Also, the pains from stretching, they are so like period cramps they freaked me out (and still do now!). That what's happening to you, 99% of the time, is totally normal, even though it might not be in the pregnancy books/websites/old wives' tales, and you don't need to worry too much about it.
Re: Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant
+1 I'm 29 weeks today and still vomiting, the books reassure you that by week 13 you will feel fabulous and brilliant. Anything but in my case, I forget what its like NOT to feel nauseous!!

Re: Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant
+2 - I'm as sick as ever at 14 weeks and really hope it eases off soon!! Re: Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant
That along with the 24 ms you can also get migranes, not fun.
That tuc crackers, salt & vinegar crisps and chips (must be the homemade kind) are all great for giving relief from the morning sickness, temporarily at least. I also found a roast beef dinner with spuds, veg and gravy did the job very well, as did peppercorn chicken & noodles, none of these were cravings, they just seemed to take the queasiness away for a few hours. That the people who tell you what you can and can't eat usually have no idea what they're talking about. Yes you can eat prawns, if they're pink they're cooked so you're ok to have prawn cocktail. You can have helmanns mayonaise, it's only the homemade kind made with raw eggs that is a problem. Same goes with cheese, blue cheese, brie and some goat cheeses are off limits as they are not pasturised, but there are plenty of cheeses you can eat, just google it. The people sizing you up, it's a boy/girl, you're high/low, big/small....everyone has an opinion and have no problems poking you either On the plus side, people get out of your way on footpaths and complete strangers smile at you. X-Factor is completely rubbish without a glass of wine or 2 Lying down and elevating your feet to relieve your swollen legs/ankles (if you can still see them ) only works so long as you remain lying down, stand up and move around for 5 minutes and they swell up again.
