How did you react when he proposed???

How did you react when he proposed???

Postby kittycatt24 » Wed May 09, 2022 10:44 pm

How did u react when OH popped THE question??
My h2b is disappointed/amused with my response and keeps Laughing at me about it! He suprised me with the ring, took me a few moments to register what was goin on and i go such a shock when i saw the ring in the box. Cue my hyperventilating, lots of hand flapping and much quickly spoken thank you, thank you, thank you before I eventually said yes. H2b said he felt he was waiting ages before I said yet!
A friend had a similar thanking experience before finally saying yea.
Another friend, was so in shock at seeing her then boyfriend get down on one knee with the ring in front of Arc de Triomphe, that she had a fit of saying no, no, no repeatedly in disbelief! Poor guy; but they are since v happily married!
How did u react?

My OH proposed when we were heading in for a swim on holiday.

We were a little bit into the sea when he turned and held my hand and next thing dropped down on one knee.

I got such a fright and was so besotted looking at him that I got knocked flat on my face by a huge wave before I really got a chance to answer!!!

My OH asked me after a new years party (he hadn't been drinking much) and I laughed told him he was joking then when I realised he was serious I hugged and kissed him said oh my god a lot. Next morning I just looked at him to see did he mean it and he just smiled and I smiled a lot.

We had been going out 10 years do it was kinda expected but just not that day.

I actually proposed to my OH on the 29th of February this year! I had been planning it for months and put together a youtube video to ask him. It went down well and he said yes!

That sounds brilliant!

Our actual engagement wasn't a surprise, it was more of a mutual decision that just came about in a conversation on the street, very unromantic! After that he said he would get the ring as a surprise so it was a few weeks later. I came home to a candlelit dinner and totally didn't twig it, you would think with the church and hotel already booked I would have seen it coming but when he got down on one knee and whipped out the ring I still burst into tears! :o0

Mine asked me my ring size out of nowhere which was very weird (he's bought me rings before but would always know by how far they got onto his pinkie :) ). I eventually wore him down with questions and he told me he was having an engagement ring made. In fairness, we were together 10 years at the time so it wasn't a massive thing really, just lovely :)

He proposed while on holiday in Barcelona. He got down on one knee in our hotel room after dinner, he'd planned on doing it on the Ramblas but bottled it, I'm so glad he did, I'd have been mortified. I'd had a few Sangria's and was completely shocked! My immediate reaction was to slap him! Couldn't believe that he'd managed to keep it a secret! :-8 He got a few slaps, midst hyperventilation, girly slaps now, he was laughing the whole time and then had to remind me that I hadn't answered! Said yes and cried my eyes out! :o)ll

I had brought our son up to bed and when I came back down the sitting room was full of candles and he was standing in the middle of the room looking sheepish and he took my hands and dropped to one knee. I said yes straight away and then started crying :) We are together ten years so it was bound to happen at some point :o)ll :o)ll

I had been in the U.S working for 2 weeks, when I got back he picked me up and gave me a lovely "I love you" type card, I didn't suspect him popping the question because he always gives little gestures like that. Then we got home, and he blind folded me before we went into the apartment, then when we got to the living room, there were rose petals EVERYWHERE in the apartment, and candles lighting, then he handed me a bunch of letters on pieces of red paper (as he knows I love to solve puzzles), when I laid it out on the floor, it said "Will you marry me?" - Then he got down on his knee - I actually took ages to respond, purely out of shock (and I was very jetlag!), but said YES YES YES!! He had a "fake" engagement ring and took me shopping the next day for the real one. I will never ever forget it :)

Mine really wasn't a proposal! TBH I never though myself and h2b would get married - now I don't mean that I didn't see us staying together, I just didn't think we'd go for the big day. We're going out 9 years. Our parents didn't think we would either - they assumed we'd come back someday and just say "Oh we got married"

So when h2b said he thought it was time we actually do it - I thought he was being sarcastic. He knew I didn't believe him so he said - right we'll go looking at rings and hotels in the next couple of weeks........ I STILL didn't believe him.

When we walked past a jewellers and he made us go in - I STILL didn't believe him but when he MADE me organise a viewing of a couple of hotel venues........ eh, thats when it hit home, we were actually gonna do this!!

One day in the car he was just driving away and said ...thought we would go away to Amsterdam for a few days as our holiday (trying to buy a house at the time so no holiday )and get engaged. I knew it was on the cards so was delighted we were heading away.

We had planned to go to the diamond factory and i would pick out my ring and watch it getin made but the second night we were there he just dropped to one knee ,held up a ring box and asked me to marry him. All i could say was ...I don't understand. So he was on one knee for a few seconds before i clicked what had happened and said yes. He had got me a token ring to pop the question and the next morning we went and got my real engagement ring.

In his wedding speech he told everyone my first response was i don't understand. Was really funny :o0
