Murryfinge no way would I pay that kind of money to a planner - it would have been almost half of what we spent on the entire wedding - and I'd have had to deal with that annoying dwarf in the run up to the wedding (although I did threaten my mother with him whenever she started bothering about things).

Glad to hear it SBB.*

*PS. That rideoftheyear yokel is not a patch on you

Why does a bank manager have to borrow on his mortgage to fund a wedding??!!

Am I very naive or is it true the average Irish wedding costs 30 grand?

Jesus almighty! If I'd 30 grand to spend I'd travel the world.

Well we've discussed it but no plans set as yet. Certainly won't be blowing 30 grand on the wedding though!
Each to their own though and fair play to the bride and groom on Franc tonigh, they got the day they wanted.

Why fair play to them? I thought the whole thing was totally vulgar from start to finish. Remortgaging your home to chav it up smacks of nouveau riche dim-witted Irishness. If they'd any sense they would have gone for the straightforward Kinnitty package which is far more classy and put the 15k+ surplus into a savings fund for their child's future education.

Though from what I could gather, education would not be a priority in their lives. Not the brightest bulbs in the packet by any means.

Fair play because they got what they wanted.
What they got might not necessarily be my cup of tea but it also wasn't my wedding.

I would have cried on entering the church - my goodness it looked like a flower bomb exploded and as for the broomstick pew ends what was he thinking.

I thought the whole thing was awful. A venue like Kinnity has enough atmosphere and history IMO without turning it into a circus. The poor groom looked like he had no say really! Anyway, the bride was thrilled but if it was me I'd be embarrassed.
