we're looking at buying here and was wondering if anyone lives/lived here or know someone who does?
It's a nice little town but I was just wondering what it's actually like to live there, just a bit wary when I know next to nothing about the place
any feedback would be much appreciated
thanks _________________

To be honestl there's nothing much in the place. I'm originally from Greystones and although I've lived there all my live, I've NEVER gone to Kilcoole for anything only ever driven through it on the way to somewhere else. As far as I remember there's only a few pubs and takeaways and maybe a fruit and veg shop there, I think they've built a small shopping centre there now too. I live in London now so am a bit out of touch but I do remember that when we were growing up that it was pretty rough but that was a few years ago now and as there's so many new housing estates in the area now I'm sure the area is as nice as anywhere else now.
It's where Glenroe (anyone remember that!!) was filmed but Kilcoole itself isn't anything like it!!
Why don't you go down some Saturday afternoon and have a wander around the town and pop into the local and see what you think. It'll give you an idea of what the town and people are like.
Best of luck with the new house! _________________

Personally, I'm not a fan of Kilcoole....
I feel that, while there are some nice houses in Kilcoole, the area itself is not the best.
You'd probably end up spending most of your time in Greystones (shopping, socialising, etc.) anyway - have you looked at any houses there? _________________

thanks guys, you've just reiterated what someone else told me yesterday so I don't know what to do. We can't afford Greystones or Delgany, any other nice places around or near? _________________

Sinion to be honest I think now would be the right time to buy in Kilcoole, cos the prices there are fairly reasonable at the moment and I think they are intending on cleaning up Kilcoole a fair bit in future as there is so much building started to happen. Greystones is becoming very built up now too and soon the Charlesland area and the Eden estates will almost run into Kilcoole,So you can be more or less living in Greystones but for less! There is a really lovely pub in Kilcoole too, just been newly renovated I think its called Lea's or something like that? As B2B-May said, at least you are only a 5-10 minute taxi ride to Greystones for all the lovely restaurants and a few other pubs !

Yeh I was thinking Newcastle too....
thanks Nacey, I'm kind of thinking along these lines too, that there's lots of developments coming up and it could get better...
I've only been there for an hour or so, i'll give it a shot for an afternoon and see how I feel
thanks guys, given me lots to think about _________________

We bought our house in Newtownmountkennedy last year, we were in Arklow previoulsy to that but it was too far to commute. It's a very handy town to live in becuase it's right next to the N11 but it's like the town that Wicklow forgot as it is not too much to look at, at the moment however they are building a hotel in the village centre and new shops and apartments and there is a new estate going in next to ours and another on the other side of the village. Our house has shot up in value since we bought so no complaints from me.
It's not as central as Kilcoole or Greystones but we're not of fan of Charlesland. It feels to close together for me. Some parts of Kilcoole are nice but be carefull where you buy.
There are alot of new developments in Rathnew as well and that's so handy for shops in wicklow town and cheaper than 10 minutes up the N11
Good luck! _________________
