Hey girls,

Our home is under construction at the moment and meet with the electrian on site over the weekend to sort out where we would like sockets and our lights!! making a long story short i put sockets everywhere practical is there any does & don't ?

when it came to the lighting i think i might have put a way too many "wall lights" then i had a conversation with somebody who told me that these are old fanished now!!

I was thinking now of brining in an interior designer as I haven't a clue if i have choosen the right places or not which means i could be looking at wires sticking out of the walls for the next 20 years!!!!

any comments, ideas?? how did ye get on, etc.

Thanks

Hi ya,

You can never have too many sockets. I've got 44 double sockets in my house. As for wall lights going out of fashion, you should start looking in lighting centres etc and see what they have on offer, they have fab stuff.

Don't forget that you are meant to be designing the house the way you like it not what anyone thinks!!

I'm out looking at tiles now!!! and its mind boggling!

Good luck

We are at the same stage b2bJune07. I'm actually online now trying to find different light designs. Wall lights or sconces (sp) seem to be quite in still. Like you I'm wary of making a decision about them as it seems too permanent. I don't think I will go with them though. My dilemma is picture lights or lights for art. What lights do we use? Again like you I'm afraid that the brass picture lights are gone out and are too old for our house.

Have a look on lightinguniverse.com and massive.ie for lightiing ideas. They have a great selection of modern lights.

go to the national lighting centre they have loads of cool lights and fittings!

i would have to say i think 70's for the picture lights but they do prove a very worthwhile purpose.

best of luck

Make sure if you have a dressing table built in as part of your wardrobes you get a socket under it for drying your hair etc.

Just thought of the hair dryer one the other day - essential!! It may seem trivial but someone also advised me to remember to put a light/socket in the press under your stairs and also one for your Christmas tree if you have an idea where it's going.

December Bride, where is the National Lighting centre???

I would say that if you are getting an island in your kitchen be sure to get a double socket on it, it will be so handy for plugging in coffee makers, Grilling machine, mixers etc. etc.

We got 44 double sockets in our house too and I am still worried its not enough, we will have to see!

Its so hard to try to figure out where you want sockets when you havent moved in yet and are trying to picture where you will have lights, etc.

Good Luck!
