DH wants a deck but I'm not mad on them - they often get all slimy and slippery and I'd prefer a patio.
What would you go for? _________________

we are opting for a patio as decking needs maintanance and is seriously slippy even with the corrugated type. The house we are in we are planning to Rent so we would like Low maintenance. if it was our final house we might consider decking but I feel I would always worry about my Mother or father breaking a hip or something -thats just me ginger nut !!

i voted for patio even though we have decking if i had my time back i would reverse!
the decking goes off - needs to be maintained and even at that never looks as good
what had put me off patios at the time was my neighbour got an awful patio done - it looked like a school yard but since then i have seen some really tasteful/beautiful ones - just get really nice slabs (pay a bit more)
............ actually after typing that now i hate my decking!!!! _________________

My mum and dad got a patio, but it's raised like decking and has the decking type wood 'fence' around it IYKWIM...it looks lovely and is very low maintainance... _________________ The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return.

I would definately go for the patio.
I have heard from a few people when the Decking is raised, and used regurlarly of outdoor eating and food can fall through the cracks it attracts Rats underneath the boards
That scared the bejayzus out of me..

God its a tough choice,we have decking and its in bits because we have a dog its really gone awful looking, dog hair is everywhere. When we were putting it down I decided I wanted it designed a certain way but what a nightmare even to power wash because all of the lengths are not straight across. We stained it too and its all chippy looking now,its nicer not stained IMO(plus the stain is 70 a tin).I suppose you learn from mistakes..so maybe im for a patio...still not sure

This is the next thing we are doing to our house. On the advice of a carpenter friend we have opted for patio. Decking is too much maintenance although it looks lovely. _________________
