Hi Girls, My kitchen will be going in shortly and am still indecisive as to which worktop to get. I really want the high gloss black finish and can't afford granite so I would be going with high gloss black laminate. Everyone is telling me that this is terrible though and that it will scratch really easily and will go dull and gloss will wear off in patches etc etc. I really love the idea of the high gloss but am thinking if this is the case would I be better going for the matt black as it apparently doesn't scratch as much and there is less maintenance on it. I don't know what to do - do I get what I really like and suffer the consequences or do I be practical and get what I don't really want. Anyone out there have a high gloss black laminate worktop that can give me advice. I really have to decide and really love the gloss finish plus I have quite a large worktop area. What'll I do????? _________________ url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

Can you elaborate a bit Clumsy! Have you had bad experience with high gloss? I'm really at my whits end with this and don't want a matter like the kitchen worktop to bog me down. Your comments would be really appreciated. x _________________ url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

have you looked at the option of Quartz at all ? Don't know much about it but apparently is cheaper than granite and have heard that not much difference in the appearance plus can get the gloss look.
I'm not at that stage with our kitchen but will definitely look into it. Found this line that does them http://www.countertopsdirect.ie/gallery.htm

Someone on WOL suggested this company before - I requested a sample and it never came. Maybe giving them a call would be better than sending a web page query.
I also heard that Quartz is just as expensive as granite but Im not sure how true/untrue that is.
If you want the glossy finish I say go for it, it may take a bit more looking after but it will be worth it if you are happy with it!

Anyone else got a glossy laminate worktop that they can give me advice on. I don't mind getting the matt black one if the glossy one is going to be as much hassle as everyone tells me they are. I really would appreciate your comments. I know you'll be honest. _________________ url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

Is there much price difference between the glossy and the matte one?
IMO the glossy one looks much nicer than the matte one but then its all down to whether you think you will really look after it! If it were me Id probably look after it for a few months and then get lazy about it!
What kind of kitchen are you getting? Could you go for a wooden worktop? A friend of mine got in a cream kitchen and got a beautiful wooden worktop, its really gorgeous.

Thanks Bride 08. I'm going for a cream kitchen myself. I just thought that the black glossy worktop would look chic and am afraid that if I go for wooden worktop that it would look too country country if you know what I mean. _________________ url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

My friends is ultra chic - When she told me she was getting cream with a wood worktop I didnt think it would be nice but it really is fantastic. I think there is a bit of maintenance on the wood worktop, needs oiling once a year or something.

I googled Glossy worktop and it came up with a remedy for scratches, you buy it in B&Q, tried to copy and paste the link but it didnt copy Im afraid. Try googling it yourself and see if you can find it.
