Thank you notes

Individual attention is difficult when you have already written twenty other thank-you notes, but a nice note will make the giver feel that you really appreciate his or her present.

Try to write and send thank-you notes to people who have sent you gifts within a week of receiving them. If you are lucky enough to receive lots of gifts, it helps to stay on top of the task if you write these as you go along. If you receive gifts on your wedding day, or shortly before, you can write when you return home from honeymoon.

Some couples like the idea of sending pre-printed thank-you cards. This is a fast way of acknowledging a gift, but it is not an acceptable way of showing your appreciation. All gifts should be acknowledged with a personal, handwritten note.

Individual attention is difficult when you have already written twenty other thank-you notes, but a nice note will make the giver feel that you really appreciate his or her present. Mention the gift and try to make reference to its place in your new home.

For example:

Dear Maureen,
Brian and I would like to thank you for the fabulous wok you gave us on our wedding day.
You're great to remember how much we like Chinese food.
Brian can't wait to give it a go with his favourite stir-fry recipe.
Please let us know the next time you are in Galway.
We'd love to have you over for dinner.
Thanks again!
Siobhan.
