The Royal Wedding: Prince William and Kate Middleton

The Royal Wedding: Prince William and Kate Middleton

Almost every young girl dreams of feeling like a princess on her wedding day, but only a select few are the genuine thing.

We take a look at the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton that will take place on April 29th, 2011.

From her dress, to her bouquet and to her similarities with Diana, we leave nothing uncovered.

Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton will wear a custom, one-of-a-kind wedding dress, much like the late Princess Diana. We picked some dresses from the current bridal collections for the future Princess of Wales.

Kate

Kate is likely to go for something traditional from a British designer. Her style is safely chic, but we hope she puts her fashion foot forward and surprise everyone with her wedding gown. This is truly a great opportunity to wear her favourite designers and some new ones, so let the fashion show begin!

Shoes

A Royal insider has revealed that Kate Middleton has commissioned four pairs of shoes for her big day, and each of varying heel height. Shoes, are the second most important ingredient in a wedding, after the groom. Kate shouldn't go too high on the big day. Afterall, she doesn't want to be staring at the flagstones of the church avoiding the cracks.

Shoes

Lady Diana’s slippers (left) were made by cobbler Clive Shilton. Decorated with 600 mother-of-pearl sequins, they had a very low heel due to the fact no one wanted her to tower over Charles.

The shoes pictured to the right have been designed by Aruna Seth The Bookies Favourtie To Design Kate Middleton's Wedding Shoes. They are a modern take of Diana's pretty slippers, a style Kate is likely to consider.

Kate

Rumor has it that Middleton will be wearing a gown from the house of Alexander McQueen designed by Sarah Burton for the Royal Wedding.

We believe Kate will choose a contemporary wedding dress, in order to avoid the constant comparisons with Diana.

Tiara

Aside from the obvious matter of her dress, royal watchers are also wondering what she will wear on her head.

It's more than likely she will top her veil off with one of the glittering tiaras from the royal collection. Among them are (from left): The Duchess of Teck Diamon Tiara, the Strathmore Rose and the Delhi Durbar.

Wedding

There is an expectation that Kate’s choice of bridal bouquet will be white flowers to symbolize purity, modesty, virginity and majesty. Every traditional royal wedding bouquet will have a sprig of myrtle a tradition that dates back to Queen Victoria's wedding in 1840.

Kate

We hope that Kate chooses something more unusual, rather than traditional, by opting for this colourful bouquet with antique brooches.

A royal wedding theme or fantasy fairy tale wedding is all about delicate fashion and going big.

Diana

Called the "wedding of the century," the wedding of Lady Diana Frances Spencer to Charles, Prince of Wales, took place on July 29, 1981, at St. Paul's Cathedral. Diana was 20 years old, Charles was 32.

Diana

Diana's wedding dress was a puff ball meringue wedding dress, with huge puffed sleeves and a frilly neckline. The dress was made of silk taffeta, decorated with lace, hand embroidery, sequins, and 10,000 pearls. It was designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel, and had a 25-foot train.

Diana’s dress set the tone for 15 to 20 years. It was something everyone remarked upon and took people's breath away. It was the archetypal fairy princess dress, with an incredible quantity of beautiful fabric and silk.

Cars

Kate will go to the Abbey in the Rolls-Royce Phantom. She has chosen this limousine - a present to the Queen from Rolls-Royce to mark her Silver Jubilee in 1977 - because its large windows will give the public the best possible view as she heads to the Abbey alongside her father on April 29. The car weighs two-and-a-half tons, is 20ft long and is one of only 374 ever made.

Prince William and his new bride will leave Westminster Abbey for Buckingham Palacein the 1902 State Landau which carried Diana and Prince Charles following their marriage at St Paul's in 1981. The State Landau, built by Hoopers for Edward VII's coronation, gets a polish-up (pictured) in the Royal Mews.

Reception

Kate might choose a simple, elegant, traditional table setting (above). Or something more breathtaking, contemporary and fantastical to suit a royal wedding (below).

Royal Wedding

Keeping the royal jewels all in the family, William proposed to Kate Middleton with the same platinum and 18-carat blue-sapphire diamond engagement ring that his father, Prince Charles, gave to his mother in February 1981. Since this ring was originally set in platinum it looks as beautiful today as it did years ago, and as it will for generations.

Kate and Diana

William and Kate's engagement portraits echo shots of Charles and Diana before they got married.

They say that men often fall in love with girls who remind them of their mothers, but Kate and Diana have only some similarities in common, mainly their sense of style.

On the surface, there are no comparisons between them. Kate is dark while Diana was blonde. Kate exudes a quiet assurance while Diana at the same age was a mass of uncertainties. Kate is a graduate in History of Art from St AndrewsUniversity while Diana left school without so much as an O-level.

As for marriage, one was a young girl who barely knew the man she was marrying, while the other has got to know probably all there is to know about her prince.

Kate

All eyes are going to be on Kate now to see if she follows in Diana's footsteps, but she is bound to recognise just how lucky she is to be compared to the late Princess of Wales.

Wedding

Kate’ style is simple dresses from the British High Street, rather than the top end designer wear which many top celebrities go for. This is a savvy move by Kate Middleton, positioning herself alongside other young women of her age by her choice of style.
