Cromleach Lodge Strikes Gold Four Star Sligo Hotel Wins Top Industry Award

Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Awards

CROMLEACH LODGE, the luxurious four star country house hotel, has been awarded one of the Irish hospitality industry’s highest honours, the prestigious Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Award for Four Star Hotels, sponsored by Heineken.

The Sligo hotel, which is lovingly operated by owners Christy and Moira Tighe and their dedicated team of staff, beat off stiff competitionfrom peers in the highly competitive four star hotel sector to win the coveted award at the23rdAnnual Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Awards on Monday night.

Nestled on the banks of Lough Arrow, Cromleach Lodge has been described as a ‘gem of the Irish tourism industry’ by members of the Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Awards Jury, who together travelled close to 20,000 kilometres across the island this summer to search for Ireland’s greatest hotels, restaurants and catering operations.

‘Cromleach Lodge, last year’s winner of the Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Award for Customer Experience, continued to wow judges this year with its warm and welcoming service, truly fabulous food and charming facilities,’ commented Sarah Grennan, editor of Hotel & Catering Reviewand chair of the Gold Medal Awards Jury. ‘The hotel is a standard-bearer for great Irish hospitality.’

Organised byHotel & Catering Review, the leading magazine for the Irish hospitality industry, the Gold Medal Awardsare recognised as the industry's most rigorous and competitive independent awards programme. Now in their 23rdyear, the Gold Medal Awardsare judged by a panel of experienced independent industry practitioners who travelled thousands of kilometres across the island of Ireland over a period of four months this year to assess hundreds of hotel, restaurant and catering entrants in the 2011 Awards.

A total of 15 category awards were presented at this year's gala black tie ceremony at Dublin’s Burlington Hotel on 24 October, which was attended by over 480 leading hoteliers, restaurateurs and caterers from across the country. As well as the category awards, the supreme Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Award for Excellence 2011was bestowed on one outstanding business which was judged by the Jury to be the ‘best of the very best’. This year’s supreme winner, Hayfield Manor Hotel in Cork, triumphed after scooping the award in the Five Star Hotels category, sponsored by Edward Dillon & Co, earlier in the evening.
