Irish Designer Week: Jen Doyle Designs

By Features Editor, Amy Croffey. Jen Doyle is a bridal accessories designer who is based in Donegal. She makes her one-of-a-kind bridal hair accessories, jewellery and crochet pieces that she describes as a little bit different, elegant and romantic.

Jen Doyle had been making jewellery for quite a while when she got a call from a bride-to-be looking for a headpiece. The woman, who loved Jen's jewellery, had a serious bridezilla moment when Jen told her she didn’t make them.

“Oh for heaven’s sake you have wire and beads - do something,” she retorted.

It was the inspiration that Jen needed and from that moment on Jen Doyle Bridal Headpieces were born!

Jen makes her one-of-a-kind bridal hair accessories, jewellery and crochet pieces in her studio in Co. Donegal. She describes her designs as something a little bit different, elegant and romantic.

One-of-a-kind

At the moment, she is working on a new collection of one-of-a-kind bridal headpieces that she will launch in February.

“I am totally inspired by nature so this plays a large part in most of my work. I also take inspiration from old movies and of course, from the bride I am designing for,” says Jen.

Jen believes it is particularly important to buy Irish, especially in the current economic climate.

“A lot of Irish designers are sole traders or have small businesses and don’t have a huge budget for advertising so it’s great when sites like WeddingsOnline.ie have an Irish Designers Week to promote what is out there,” she says.

She believes that, if possible, Irish people should try to buy Irish more often. “If we all try to support Irish businesses in some way, even if it's just buying two Irish products in a weekly grocery shop, it means that we help to keep more people in business, which in turn will save more jobs and also keep money in the economy.”

Although Jen tries to buy some of her materials in Ireland, she buys most of them abroad as they are not available or manufactured here.
