In the largest study of its kind based on analysis of data of nearly 17,000 WeddingsOnline.ie users, and recent online survey of 1,680 brides and grooms, WeddingsOnline.ie brings you the main findings...

  • The most popular time to get engaged is during the winter months -26% of men pop the question in December.
  • Summer is the most popular season to get married, with 44% of couples hoping for a summer sunshine wedding, followed by spring and autumn (both 22%) and finally winter (12%).
  • 18% of couples have opted for a civil ceremony rather than a church wedding.
  • Weekends are the most popular time for couples to get hitched with 71% opting for a traditional weekend wedding -37% of weddings happen on a Friday, 42% on a Saturday.
  • A huge 93% of couples surveyed will get married in Ireland.
  • Breakdown of spending for the big day is as follows:

  • The average spend for a wedding is approximately €20K.

Wedding Suppliers

  • The four most important issues when choosing a wedding supplier are:

    1. Price 2. Quality 3. Reliability 4. Good Reviews

  • When choosing a wedding supplier, 73.2% said that quality was more important than price.

 

The Honeymoon

  • 96% of couples went on honeymoon.
  • The average budget for a honeymoon is just under €5000.00.
  • Average duration of the honeymoon is just over two weeks.
  • 10% of couples spend at least some of their honeymoon time in Ireland.
  • 98% of couples honeymoon abroad. 
  • The top three honeymoon destinations are Spain (29%), Portugal (19%) and Italy (18%).

 

WeddingsOnline and Irish Weddings

  • 84% of our users are between 25 & 34 years old - 98% Female.
  • Only 24% of WeddingsOnline.ie users have booked a venue at time of survey (February 2012)
  • 98% of WeddingsOnline.ie users would recommend WeddingsOnline.ie to their friends (thanks guys!)

 

23% of brides would change something about their wedding. Some examples are:

“I would be more assertive about my decisions and not allow others to influence my choices.”

“I would have booked a venue earlier. So we had more choice.”

“Choose a different best man!”

“Get a wedding planner!”

“I wouldn't have gotten as stressed.”

“I wouldn't let others interfere.”

“I wouldn't start building a house at the same time.”

“I wouldn’t bring entire family dress shopping.”

“I would ensure someone had a needle and thread.”
