Length of engagement: Three years - but 11 years together!

Wedding date: November 26, 2021

Wedding ceremony and reception: Summerhill House Hotel, Enniskerry, Co Dublin

Wedding photographer: Aidan’s good friend, Eric Savo - Eric won the Wedding Photographer of the Year at the WeddingsOnline Awards

“A good venue, good food, good music and most importantly good company,” were the most important things to Ashley and Aidan when they were planning their wedding.

They opted for a humanist ceremony, so that everything felt personal and said everything that they wanted to say to each other. “We’ve been together a long time before we got married, so it was like a celebration of being the best of friends and soul mates too,” said the beautiful bride Ashley.

We met... My brother was a friend of Aidan's and introduced us to each other.

My first impression of Aidan... When I first met Aidan I noticed how shy and quiet he was. I'm three years older than him and I think I scared him a little bit. But I remember thinking that he had lovely, friendly and kind eyes and a really big smile. I just knew he was a lovely person and he also made me laugh. And we’ve been laughing ever since!

Aidan’s first impressions of Ashley... Beautiful, fun, full of life, caring and honest. (His words, not mine!)

Our proposal... I’m absolutely impossible to keep secrets from, but he managed to pick my engagement ring (which I couldn't have picked better myself) and propose to me standing on a canal bridge in Amsterdam. He completely caught me off guard, which was the nicest and biggest surprise I've ever had. One minute I was walking over a bridge and turned around to find Aidan had disappeared, and then looked down to see him on one knee with a ring in his hand.

Our venue... We chose Summerhill House Hotel because it was a small, private venue and had a very cosy feel to it. Plus, Enniskerry is a place we always liked.

Our wedding theme/colours... We didn't really have a theme as such but we wanted a wedding that was classic and sophisticated in a modern style. My dress was an hourglass shape and the bridal party and I had feathered boleros for a bit of glamour! Aidan went for a three-piece suit which was very sophisticated. The colour scheme was aubergine and silver.

My dress... My dress was a very simple and elegant hourglass shape that looked like a 1940s Marilyn Monroe style. I was very comfortable in the dress as it hid all the bad things and complimented the better things.

Our ceremony... We had a humanist ceremony. We picked all the music and readings, so it was a very personal service that said everything that we wanted to say to each other.

Our bridesmaids/groomsmen... My bridal party consisted of; my sister-in-law and maid-of-honour Alison (Aidan's sister) and my two closet friends, Sara and Edwina. The groom’s party consisted of Aidan's old school friend and best man Stephen, my only brother Tony and our dear friend, Tady.

WOL

Our first dance song... Barry White - You're My FirstMy LastMy Everything. We both love to dance and love to have fun together so we didn't want the typical slow dance music, so a little 70's disco got the night off to a good start!

Advice for other brides... Once the day has arrived just enjoy yourself. You can't do anything more so what will be will be. Try to organise to meet up with each other throughout the day, as everything goes so fast that you get very little time alone with each other.
