Bride and Groom: Jo, who works in Pharmaceuticals, and Jon, a Butcher.

Length of engagement: 9 months | Wedding date: September 24, 2022
Wedding ceremony: Foulkstown Church, Kilkenny | Reception: Step House, Borris, Co. Carlow

What came first -the wedding dress or the colour palette? In Jo and Jon's case, it was a silk sheath David Fielden dress calling the shots, and the rest followed suit! The couple chose teal green and grey for their wedding colour palette. They both liked how well the colours worked together and of course that they went so well with Jo’s amazing David Fielden wedding gown! Jo picked her dress because it was a shade that was kind to her Celtic skin tone - and that it was! Matched with her sparkling headpiece and her bright red VW Beetle (which had a very unexpected starring role in the occasion!) it made for a simply stunning bride and a very stylish wedding.

We met... On a night out in Kilkenny on our groomsman’s Danny and his wife Helen’s combined hen/stag night. They were not very subtle in trying to set us up on a date!

Your first impressions of Jon... Handsome, very tall and a little shy.

Jon’s first impressions of you... Cute and chatty!

Our proposal... Jon came to Kerry on Christmas Night in terribly icy conditions to ask my parents for their permission to marry me. We got engaged that night with family and very close friends calling to celebrate. It was really lovely as Christmas is a special time for me at home.

Our groomsmen... Our best man was Jon’s brother Graham and groomsman was his best friend Danny - a dangerous man with a microphone!

My dress... I wore a David Fielden sheath dress in a lovely almost gold colour, which was kind to the Celtic skin tone!

Our wedding theme/ colours... I love teal green and grey and it went well with the colour of my wedding dress.

Our ceremony... The ceremony was very relaxed to everyone’s surprise no tears and no nerves!

Our favourite part of the wedding... Getting our lines right and walking down the aisle as a married couple! Also, my parents celebrated their marriage of 40 years a month or two previous to ours and we organised a blessing for them as part of our ceremony. It really was very sweet and really added to the sincerity of the commitment and the ceremony.

Our  bridesmaids... My two great friends were my bridesmaids Patricia Joyce, my best friend from school days and Sandra O’Neill another best friend from college. They had me in stitches for the day.

Our favourite wedding picture... I have a few!! Paul and Elaine from Moat Hill Photography caught so many images that really captured the day for us and it is hard to pick one image that sums up a very emotional and happy day. I love the picture of me kissing my Dad’s cheek just before I walked up the aisle, pushing the ring on Jon’s finger, the photos in Borris House were fab and the Bugster VW Beetle had a starring role all of its own on the day. However, we particularly love the picture where we were amongst the trees in Borris House and Paul captured a moment where we happened to be looking at each other and we look very, very happy!

Our first dance song... Van Morrison - Into the Mystic

My advice for other brides... Plan as much as you can up to the event and then RELAX. Enjoy the day, things will go wrong and you can’t control it and by then you will be the only person who will notice/care. Let the need for control go because the mood of the couple determines how everyone else feels. Be happy you are marrying the man you love and really that is all that matters!
