Med Cruise - spending money/advise?

Med Cruise - spending money/advise?

Postby mrsdonal » Tue Apr 17, 2022 10:25 am

Hi guys,
Myself and H2B are going on a 7 night med cruise with royal caribean :o)ll - just wondering what sort of money others have spent on-board. I know all our food is included in the price we've paid, also the gratuities are included. So just wondering what should we expect to spend after that.
We have left it too late to apply for a credit card(which is what they prefer you use) so we would like to know how much in travellers cheques(or cash) to bring with us.
Any other advise welcome too!
Thanks for your help!!!

we were on a cruise in the med with royal caribbean last year when we got engaged!
first, don't brink alcohol on board, they won't let you! even if you get some at a port, they scan bags coming back onto the ship, and will happily store alcohol for you to bring home, (they'll give it back on the last day) but not to drink onboard, it's how they make their money!!

two drinks ( a glass of wine and a pint) was about $15 (everything is in dollars onboard, it's an american company) if you got a bottle of wine with dinner one night and didn't finish it, they'd cork it and give it to you again the next night. sometimes we brought ours up to our balcony after dinner (if you haven't got a balcony room, try and upgrade, it is SO worth it to wake up and open the door to listen to the sea!)

we were on the adventure of the seas, and the buffet dining room was called the windjammer, you can get free tea, coffee and juice in there all day long! there was a free icecream machine thing by the pool on the top deck, gorgeous!

we didn't use a credit card either, we loaded most of our cash onto our cards as soon as we boarded (you use it to pay for everything onboard and as a room key) and you can see on a channel on your bedroom tv what you've spent and where, great for keeping track of what you have left. For those who use a credit card, their channel will just tot up what they have to pay at the end. We kept some cash back for getting off at ports. Don't lose your card! You don't want anyone else using it to buy stuff!

If you go over the cash that you load onto your card you can settle your bill at the end of the week by credit card (probably by debit card too, but worth checking out as I'm not sure)

Our bill was pretty high because my lovely fiance bought my ring on board (i had no idea he was going to propose, don't think he did either!) And we only had one really mad night out where we spent a fortune on cocktails etc!)

I think we spent about €1000, but we'd a couple of v expensive excursions and I went mad buying guess jewellery and gifts for everyone at home!

You will have the most amazing holiday, some people said it would be full of old people but it was a mix of every age group. We're both in our late 20s and never want to go on another holiday that isn't a cruise ever again!! We're going to cruise the caribbean on honeymoon in november, can't wait!!

If you want to know any more just pm me!
