St. Petersburg

Hi,
We're thinking of a long weekend in St. Petersburg just after our wedding, has anyone been? We're getting married at end of Nov. and holding off on main honeymoon until end of Jan, so we want to get away for a few days at least just after the wedding.
I know it will be cold, but we always like to a have a winter city break some where with snow. Plus old cities look amazing in snow, and less tourists too!

We actually stayed in St Petersburg as part of our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. I have to say though it was baltic and that was the start of September so id be afraid of the temps in November but if you think you are able for it go for it :o0
We stayed in the Astoria Hotel which is really central and very beautiful. The architecture in St P we found really amazing and the history of it all is quite interesting. Restaurants are reasonably priced and theres a nice buzz about the place. We did a few other things like going to the ballet etc which were very enjoyable.I do remember though that flights to there and hotel accommodation were pretty expensive but its not that bad for spending once you get there.

We've actually booked 4 nights in Berlin instead. We'll be taking a big honeymoon in Feb to Thailand so just wanted an easy trip for a long weekend after the wedding. The flight times weren't really suitable for St. Petersburg (using airmiles so tied to two airlines), and also having the effort of sorting out a visa (like we won't enough to do in the run up to the wedding!).

So Berlin it is then, we've been there a few times before, so know where to go for good restaurants/bars etc, the beer is good in Germany O-O and there will be Christmas Markets too!
