Madeira?

Has anyone been to Madeira? Thinking about going there on honeymoon. Its a week without the kids so we do want something relaxing but will it be too quiet? Thanks

Hi,
We've been to Madeira twice and stayed in the Melia Madeira (fab hotel) both times. It is a beautiful island.

I love Madeira because it has very special memories for us. However, I must tell you that it is very quiet. Not a place to go if you like clubbing. If you are looking for a really relaxing holiday then it is a lovely spot. It mainly attracts the golden oldies and people with young families, this is probably because it is such a safe place and the temperatures don't get too hot.

We found a nice bar that the local's (late 20's-30's) go to just below the Melia and that became our usual haunt.

Also, there are no sandy beaches in Madeira (bar one man made one) so make sure wherever you stay has a nice pool. The Melia had an lovely indoor and outdoor pool so it was perfect. I should be on commisson for the Melia!!! But it is a lovely hotel.

Thanks for that Sunnydays. Thats actually one of the hotels we were looking at, that and the CS Madeira Atlantic. We def wont be going clubbing so I'd say we'll go with it :)
