Which starter would you choose?

We cannot decide on a starter. I think I know what the "safer" option is, but don't want to be boring. Then again boring is better than having something no one else will eat!
We're not having a choice as it's too bloody expensive

Thanks a mil

Sorry - there was meant to be a 3rd option:
NORMANDY HAM, CHUNKY MELON AND RASPBERRY, HERBY CITRUS SAUCE

But for some reason it didn't show up.

Thanks a lot

I was humming & hawing for ages - was almost about to click on the tartlet & then changed my mind at the last minute and went for the salad. Definitely wouldn't go for the ham & melon anyway! I chose the salad purely for the truffle dressing - sounds delish!!! mmmm!! Both options sound fab though.

I voted for the salad... although my personal favourite would be the ham and melon (actually demolished a whole packet of Serrano ham and a galia melon last night  ). The first one wouldn't appeal to me at all - I love cheese, but gruyere is way too overpowering for a starter IMO.

I think that when catering for large numbers safe is best... I really wasn't keen on the whole "beef or salmon" choice, but hey - it's a crowd pleaser and for me I'd prefer a safe classic cooked and presented nicely than something "different" that I hated.

Have to say that I'm not the most adventerous where food is concerned so would have said neither of the options but having seen the ham, melon one that would be my choice..... sounds lovely :D

best of luck with your choice - it's going to be difficult.

I think the third option might be the alround safest and will please the most people (unless of course all your family and friends are chefs or food gurus) - if I've learnt anything from my family its the food that gives any event its overall rating!!

They have often commented that certain cousins where going beyond their stations with their choice of menus and it was far from truffle dressing she was reared!

I think the melon and ham is the safest - im quiet a fussy eater so wouldn't be brave enough to order either of the others - but hey that's just me !!

The tartlet sounds nice, but I think the melon is a good choice. If melon is ever an option for a wedding I'm at, I always go with it because it isn't too heavy/filling, so I will still be hungry for the main course, and more importantly-the wedding cake. :D :D
