Hello again ladies,

I did this before, but we've narrowed our choices of starters down to another 4 options, so please please help us decide! What do you think is the best choice. Our main is roast rack of lamb.

Thanks!

i chose to stick with what I would see as the safest option but only because I think you may find loads of people dont eat lamb! so a chicken option is usually acceptable.

Chicken will be the best "crowd pleaser" so to speak! A lot of people would not go for something fishy!!
We are having lamb or salmon for the main - and i chose baked brie cheese on a salad for the starter!! For me I would love something like the onion tartlet but that would not be everyones cuppa ya know!!

If I was one of your guests the only thing that I'd eat out of the four would be the chicken. Yes I am a fussy eater

Wouldn't class myself as a particularly fussy eater but you do have to take those who are into account. Even without being fussy think chicken is your best option. Remember you're not going to please all the people all the time but you do want to please as many as you can...

Another one for the chicken here. As said before its the safest option when catering for so many guests. I personally would love the seafood but then I love anything fishy.

You're never going to be able to please everyone. The others that have responded to your question have said they'd prefer the chicken.....whereas that'd be my least favourite of the lot!

Have you tasted them yet? If you can do a menu tasting it might make it easier to decide?

Look, no offence, but why do you have to have such fancy stuff which people will whinge over and not eat. I personally am going with the good old veg soup as my starter coz you're guaranteed most people are going to eat it and even if they dont, it hasn't cost you a fortune!!

Just my opinion but then I'm having plain old Turkey & Ham as my main. Sorry if that's a bit boring!!

Like Bride2Be, the chicken would be my least favourite. Chicken is usually fine and most fussy eaters will eat it, but smoked chicken is not to everyone's taste so in this instance it's not necessarily the safe option. I voted for the tartlet. I think the flavours will best compliment your main.

I actually think the tartlet is a great idea...and if there are non-strict vegetarians coming it might suit them too. Out of all those dishes I personally would go for the salmon or the tartlet. I find "hotel" chicken is always a bit dry usually and smoked chic also would not be to all tastes as much as a regular vol au vent.

I dont think your choice are too fancy...I have been to a few weddings and the menu has been basically the same and it gets boring...As far as I know from hearing about my bride's menu there is not much difference in the costs of main courses from chicken to lamb anyway these days. I think soup is very filling. I never finish it. What time of year is your wedding - if its summer maybe people wouldnt like soup anyway - a nice light starter would be lovely and you have a lovely choice.

Going on the numbers I would opt for the tartlet...you'd be pleasing a lot of people I reckon. Best of luck whatever you choose!

I'd go with the french onion tart - covers veggies as well that way or the I wouldn't be into providing the "safe" menu - not paying for something i wouldn't enjoy eating. I was at one weddign where they had beef - it was grey and absolutely vile - i wouldn't have given the stuff to a dog, and another with T & H, and it was like something out of a packet. I think most people are a little more adventurios these days, and to be honest I'm having the menu i want and I know my immediate family will like nad friends as we all enjoy eating out. I don't really care if its not to some people's liking - they can ask if there's anything else in the kitchen

Thanks for all your opinions girls.

I think we'll probably go with the onion tartlet - that's been my first choice all along. What we will try and do is see if they will make up 30 or so melon and ham or similar and have them on standby in case anyone will not eat the tartlets... we'll see.
Malteser we're getting married in the begining of Sept so it's kindof still summer (hopefully it will be weatherwise anyhow). We've decided not to have soup as I don't understand how anybody would like soup at a summer-ish wedding. So instead we're going for a sorbet.

Anyhow thanks again for all your helps girls & best of luck with your own menus.

Hey MrsS2b,

I was at a wedding recently and the starter was fish cakes, to be honest most people at my table didn't eat theirs...I think a lot of people have a thing against fish. Personally I could eat fish every day and be
happy out but in a situation like this I think your chicken option would be a safer bet....and it sounds lovely too!!
