Holiday Advice Needed - Any help?

Postby Frankie » Thu Jul 07, 2022 9:35 pm

So we have a budget of about €2,000 for the holiday and we've booked our time off work for August.

I can't decide whether to take a weeks holiday in Turkey and spend the balance of the money on shopping (always a good option).

Try and up our money and take an all inclusive holiday or a trip to Thailand/Malaysia/Barbados.

Or go to Florida for a fly/drive.

Can anyone help me out please?

If you have any good holiday sites please let meknow and if you know of any good value ways around booking Ireland I'd love to hear.

Thanks so much!

I'd go for Thailand or Malaysia - not on a package deal though.

problem with an all-inclusive, frankie, is that you see nothing of the country you're in! I'd hate that.
at least if you go to turkey and organise a shopping trip to istanbul or something, you'll get a little bit of the culture along with it all, and get to haggle with people over prices for a rug, etc.

I'd agree no to all inclusive as you wouldn't see much of lovely place you are in.I'd go for a holiday in Turkey, some fab location or Florida as it is better to go to Thailand etc with more money, so maybe save later for honeymoon

I'd be with Bride2be on this, I wouldn't go the package route either, I spent a month in Thailand, Flights, accomodation, food and lots & lots of drink and travelling around for €2000. That was only for me but we were drinking from around 4pm till 6am most nights and travelled somewhere different every 2-3 days so that ate up alot of our money, also had to get a second bag to get all my purchases home! Check out flights with ebookers & trailfinders and have a look at the Amari hotels in Thailand they're really nice 4*-5* and by booking direct you should get it for around €20-€25 each a night. If you decide to go for the beach huts (very cute, basically just a bed, an ensuite and a fan but for €2-€3 a night for the hut you can't go wrong) found them very clean too. You'll really get to experience the Thai culture, and you'll have plenty of cash left over to go elephant treks and Jungle adventures  If you want any info on Thailand give me a shout.

God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece

Just a warning if you are considering the Caribbean Frankie, its hurricane season in August. If you are looking for Aug ideas, there is a section in the Honeymoons section with august brides discussing where they are thinking of going to give you some ideas.

Im miss anti-package holiday, be brave, its much better I promise!

Thailand is cheap though! I'm sure you could get a good deal on flights somewhere. Once you're out there food & accommodation isn't expensive at all.

This might sound daft (forgive me if it does)

I would def recommend florida. I loved it, had a ball there a few years back and you feel like such a kid. You will never forget it. Fort Lauderdale, I have never been here but a friend who works beside me was there and absolutely loved it, beach outside the door and hotel was not expensive at all.
Orlando - cant beat it and hotels are dear if you dont shop around, you can get a good hotel for a decent price. Tickets for the park, buy as you go unless u really want to buy ahead of time.

Miami and the Keys are amazing but you would need a car to experience it best.

I would NOT do all inclusive, you can get such good deals online, I would book flights, then accomodation for wehrever you wanna go.
Turkey - not to be rude but you could get a last minute deal to there anytime you want, pick someplace that you woudnt go normally.

That would be my friendly advise anyway.

Thanks a million everybody.

All help gratefully appreciated! We've decided to go to Turkey so we will have more spending money to spend on ourselves and treat ourselves to some little extras!

How about New Zealand? I wasn't working for the first 5 months of the year so we're just doing something last minute, if we can decide where to go, for the first two weeks of august. We're planning to do a two week tour of New Zealand and New Caledonia next year.

My second choice would be Thailand and a hut on Ko Pang Nan island. If that's how it's spelt.

We saw loads of brouchures for beautiful topical holiday paradises but then when you look up about the country itself a lot of places are too dangerous to leave the tourist area and explore.
