i am concentrating on my house at the moment. i promised myself i would just book the big things for now and leave the rest until late next year.

but as the baby thing goes, i just needed an honest reply, people have different attitudes to pregnancy and i wanted different opinions.

Hi Bridget,

Im 32 too, and I wasnt being patronising when I said she was young. She is young and I meant it in a positive way - I wish I was 21!

No way would I want to be 21 again...(except for being thinner) I'm 34 and heading towards 35 and this is the happiest I've ever been in my life. 30s are the way to go...

Hi annemarie,
You ask away girl, this an anonymous forum and I've never noticed rules anywhere on the site that state you must only stick to topics that appeal to everyone. The girls who had a go her should remove the stick from their a***s and chill out. She's 21, did you know it all at that age?
If I'd had access to a forum like this at that age God knows what I would have been chatting about- certainly much more inane topics than if childbirth hurts (things like "My boyfriend snogged my best mate in front of me last night, does this mean he doesn't fancy me any more? )

Cant help you there annemarie cos I havent done it but from what I hear it varies from woman to woman- some have it easy and others dont.

As for exclamation marks as punctuation I thought the whole point of netiquette was that these things dont matter (except the use of caps).

LEAVE HER ALONE AND LET HER POST WHAT SHE LIKES-ITS A FREE WWW, THATS WHY IT WAS INVENTED

I second that jellybaby! Glad to see you're still here chicky!! :D

I'm afraid I can't answer your original question! However, I remember when I was 21 (over ten years ago now!!) and I had a ton of questions. Heading into your twenties, you're still finding your feet. Buying a house and getting married are two of the biggest things you'll ever do! Having a baby is bigger again! It's perfectly natural to be curious about it, especially if you're going to go through it some day, something I admire immensely in you or anyone else brave enough to choose parenthood :D

I must say, even the people who are saying it's great to be 21 are sounding really patronising (which is one of the drawbacks to typed communication, you can't get tone across).

It's varies from people saying "leave her alone, she's just young and excited" to people saying "Oh I remember back when I was 21, you have to ask loads of questions because you're young". Even though the second lot are being nice (I presume  ) it's still really annoying to be told you're acting a certain way because of your age!

I hope I still ask twenty questions a day when I'm 30, and 40, 50, 60 and so on!

Sorry Annemarie, didn't mean to start ranting on your post!

heya annmarie hows you ? havent spoke in ages !

in regards to your question.....

As a mammy of two little girls it was totally different different giving birth the second time as it was the first!

the first happened all in all in under 4 hours ! mega quick and with pain that was bearable !

the second was completing different- in labour for over 18 hours without any pain relief before i had my waters broke and delievered my little girl.

the pain is totally bearable annmarie so dont worry yourself over it. remember the pain relief options that are availalble. Women years ago had none !

concentrate on the oul house plans for the time being!

you'll be grand !

take care annmarie

No apologies necessary!
I just don't think it was as bad of a question as people think.
I mean I don't know anything about childbirth so why not ask?
Anyway I am not getting back into that.

thanks girls :D

Im really baffled by people saying its patronising to say "you are young"? Its a statement. You are young at 21. Some people havent even finished college. I dont understand where the patronising part comes in? Why is it insult? I would understand if the comment was "you are immature" or "you are acting younger than your age" but not "you are young"? At 21 you are young. Its a statement of fact. Someone even had a thread here recently about being "young and engaged".

Sorry to go off topic.

I agree about the age comments being patronising....I cannot understand the obsession people have with age!

Age is a number, and does not reflect maturity in any way....I know lots of people in their mid 20s who are far more mature and experienced than my friends in their mid 30s. People (and more often women, in my experience) seem to think that you only earn the right to have an opinion when you've passed a certain age, it's totally ridiculous.

I know people who had one or two kids by the age of 23. Arent they as mature as someone who has no children but is 30? I know people in their 30s who have lived in the same house in the same area, gone to the same pubs, had the same friends and done the same job since they were 17 - does their age qualify them to call themselves rich in life experience?

I'm rambling now, but this is a pet hate of mine. I suppose my basic point is that maturity does not automatically come with age. None of us know annemariewatts, nobody knows how mature or otherwise she is, and having posted something that is important to her, she should be responded to fairly, without anyone trying to "excuse" her reasoning because of her age. Her feelings don't need excusing, least of all because she is 21.

swissgirl,

where the statement "you are young" becomes patronising is when it is used in an attempt to explain, excuse or rationalise something that somebody has said. Everybody's opinion should be valid, whereas if it is responded to with "ah well, he/she is young" it becomes devalued.

My point is that nobody's opinion or feelings should be thought of within the context of their age.
