I think they'd be better received when everyone has had a few bottles of wine! :lol:


Or in our case, when everyone has had a hell of a lot of champagne during the pre-reception drinks! :lol: I was adamant about having them before the meal due to a very nervous Daddy and have to say, it worked well for us though there were a few people who caned the champagne and so were quite well on - well one person in particular who was on a bit of a mission to get p8ssed anyway!

But I agree about the food - we had told everyone that they had a strict time limit of 15 mins TOTAL - for all the speeches. We got through them in less than 20, and everyone was able to enjoy their food.

I'm all for speeches before the meal. Q is should we have it in the bar that will be exclusively ours for drinks before the meal or should we get everyone into the room we're using for the meal and then have them????

Get everyone into the bar, then when the speeches are finished the hotel can start to serve immediately. Otherwise the food will be further delayed (we just about managed to fit it all in, with a 1.00pm wedding and sitting down to eat at 5.30!)

I was at a wedding recently where the father of the bride and the grooms father said their speech before the meal and then the best men and grooms speeches went after the meal. That way the parents could relax and enjoy the meal rather that been too nervous to eat. It worked out pretty well and its something I would consider doing. The parents speeches didn't last too long.

My God, I'm actually surprised at the results. Having read your posts, I'm certainly leaning towards speeches before the meal now.
