I really want ours before the meal so that they're outta the way and the rest of the wedding party can relax and enjoy themselves...but H2B aint convinced!! (yet :twisted: )

We had my FIL and my hubbies speech after the starter and b4 the soup and it worked really well. If people were hungry, they just had enough to keep them going. Then, the bestman spoke after the meal. It worked really well and a good few people commented on it.

We did them after the meal, we had been to a few weddings where they were done before and people were moaning as they were to hungary...

We've pretty much decided on having ours before the meal - I know h2b's brother (the bestman) and my dad are both going to be really nervous and we don't want to put them through that so it's the best thing all round!

As long as they will be short and the hotel are OK with it before the meal works. If they are going to go on beyond 20 mins after the meal is better. Or you could split them up and have 2 before and the rest after etc, was at a wedding where they did this and it worked well.

we were at a wedding a few weeks ago and the speeches were done before, first time i've seen it been done and it was much better because everyone relaxed during the meal, although a good few guests were giving out because they were starving, and the hotel staff were also getting a bit p***sed off because the meal was meant to be a six but didn't get served until seven.

Knowing the people who will be speaking (little ol me included!), it won't take long at all! :D

I want to have mine before the meal only because H2B will be physical sick waiting and wont eat any dinner.
I like the idea od doing FIL and H2B before meal and BM after

My gut instinct is to have them before so that everyone can relax and enjoy their meal. I've spoken to the hotel and it's not a problem but every second the speeches delay is a second longer the food sits congealing. If we're running with this option, we have to be sure that everyone knows they get X mins to speak and doesn't run over that limit.

Im thinking of having them before the meal so that everyone can enjoy their dinner. We are hoping to be sitting for 5 and having the meal at half five so i will warn everyone to keep it short!!
