September 2012 Brides?????

Hi ya, getting married on the 8th of September - going to South Africa on Honeymoon, - Cape town and on safari

Have alot of stuff done just need to make final desisions regarding cakes and gifts etc.

What do ye think of this idea? instead of guest book (they are a nightmare to try and get everyone to sign it, didnt really work out for my sister last year!!) We are having a cork theme, bridesmaids are red, the invitations will match them, the table names are gonna be our favourite places in cork city and county.

We were thinking of buying postcards from a local touristy shop and put them on each table, say 1 per couple, they can each sign it and write a little note and we'll have a post box set up near the bar or near the cake and they can drop them in when they like? That way no one gets tsuck going around to each table and we can get a photo album to keep them all in?

Whats everyone else doing regarding guest books?

My friend had a change of groomsman only a couple of weeks before her wedding but it all turned out fine on the day.
Oh I might get OH a bottle of aftershave too. Think his favourite one has run out.
I dont know if this is really silly but I saw these on etsy and really liked them.

oh my god i want that cutlery :) have you seen the flip flops that leave 'just married' in the sand :-)

Seen those on the WOL shop - cute aren't they!!

If h2b has his way, I'll not be near a beach on honeymoon - more like trekking in the wilderness of Australia... with him driving a tractor or something!!

Have become a Sept 2012 bride to be as of last Wednesday! Was all set and everything booked for 18th August 2012 but fiance is now going to be away on that date with work. Thankfully everyone has been great about date change and my photographer, videographer, priest, church, hotel, band etc were all free for new date so no hassle there!

Looking forward to September wedding-weather is usually better anyways!

Welcome to the September thread!!!

Wow - you were lucky all your suppliers were still available for your new date so that you didn't lose any deposits!

Well I just got an email today from Cardsandpockets that my pocketfold invitations & envelopes have been shipped!! They are being posted to my h2bs relatives who are gonna take them over to Ireland in a couple of weeks. I hope they aren't too bulky for their luggage and that they don't get caught with customs!!

Got the inserts printed and picked up this week so I actually can't wait to get at them!!

Also ordered clear/transparent address labels from Amazon - used a couple of Amazon vouchers I had and got 350 labels for £3! Bargain!!

Anyone watch Franc's DIY brides??
I loved the hurricane vase idea for the centrepieces and I'd been looking online all day today to source reasonably priced ones..but another wollie pointed out on another thread that centrepieces are usually cleared by the hotel after the meal that they were a waste of money - I didn't think of that!!

Are you using your hotels centrepieces or are you providing your own?? What are your centrepieces??

Am using candlelabras (not sure of spelling!) that the hotel is providing. Thought about doing all the diy stuff but in all honesty am not quite bothered! Had thought about candles and lanterns in church but wedding is at 2pm so effect will be lost-my cousin got married at 4pm at xmas and she had candles-church was beautiful as nothing else lit the place and all the guests held candles in their hands!

I think what's changed my mind as well is that I'll be back at work-originally I would have been on holidays and would have had plenty of time to make sure everything was done to my standards whereas now I'll be working right up to the day 2 jobs and studying for college exams so I'm going to take the v easy way out!

Theres 2 types of table centre pieces in our hotel
Candleabras and a long thin case with 1 single white flower. I love the candleabras but I didn't like the long thin vase. I was gonna do hurricane vase with coloured beads and candles but as the hotel clears the tables after the meal I think it would be a little bit of a waste. So I've post the coloured beads of eBay and I'm gonna put these in the bottom of the hotel's vases. So i'll get sorta the same effect but for A LOT less money!!

Welcome scaulfield. You were very lucky alright. It was obviously meant to be.

Awkward annie- We were going to do our own table decorations (goldfish bowls filled with blue water and floating candles) and had put a deposit down but then realised it was a bit of a waste of money and wouldn't make that big an impact on arrival as they were low. I hate candelabras as they just get in the way of talking to people but said Feic it I'll use the hotels candelabras. Luckily the florist I put the deposit with is the same one that does the hotels flowers so Im now using the deposit for her to upgrade every second candelabra to add in blue flowers. Should be nice.

Following on from what Lindacork was saying are you all having a guest book or doing sonething different. Our photographer is meant to be doing a photo frame of us do people can sign it and I have a regular guest book also as I didn't want to many gimmicks but I don't know what to do just let it go freely or send someone around with it. Hmmmm

I have done bugger all recently. I just can't get back into things. There is just do many little things to do. A lot are just cases of picking up the phone or going to a shop so gonna try tick a few off today.

Our hotel has the candelabras and long thin vase with flowers too. They are gonna alternate both on different tables. I've asked the hotel to match the flowers to my bouquet and to put tealights or something on the table around them. I'm having lanterns o. The pew ends so might bring them w me and put them around the tall vase. We'll see it could awful! I'm also getting the hotel to put ivy around the candleabra's. How are you planning to show your table numbers? You could go for the picture frame idea and that could dress up the table without looking too cluttered

Centerpieces - using the hotels but they are really nice. Tables will alternate between candelabras and fish bowls with flowers and floating candles on a mirror plate. And there are tea lights around the base too.

Guestbook - I am doing a signature board based on one I have seen. The centre is filled with words, our names, wedding date, venue, first song, places we have been, our dog, just loads of things that are us as a couple with room around the edge for the guests to sign. I am going to have set up at the drinks reception as I think when its put as you go in the door for dinner a lot of people miss it or there is a big queue so some people skip it.

I have gotten a bit done lately but invites are starting to cause a headache. We registered intent, did the premarriage course, my Mam got her outfit, bought my hairpiece, tried on a wedding ring I really like. Thinks thats all I have done in the last few weeks.

What did you think of Francs DIY brides? Thought there would be more tips on it. We are doing escort cards, do you lay them out alphabetically, I was going to group them in the tables but it sounded like he did it another way.

Yes, of course. I got them done in Reads Print & Design. They have shops on Nasseu Street and in Sandyford Industrial estate.

I got 200 invites, 200 guest information enclosures, 200 RSVPs and 200 monograms all printed in colour on beautiful pearlesence metallic paper, all cut to exact sizes. I am delighted with them. I contacted them via email and they were always very prompt and friendly and helpful.

I emailed about 20 printing companies and got quotes back as much as €500 + VAT! (I actually emailed them back and said i wanted it printed on paper, not on gold bars - they weren't too impressed) Reads came in at €137 and was the cheapest company by far.

Hope that helps.

Highbeam - regarding Franc. I enjoyed it but I was a little disappointed how rushed it was. We didn't see a lot of the DIY planning and it was a little rushed. I would love for Franc to kind of take 5 minutes to explain or give us tips on how to bring a theme together and what simple do and dont's to do.

Love the idea of the escort cards. I'd put them out alphabetically as it will he easier for your guests to pick up their name and they won't know who else is on their table until they all sit down.. i would LOVE to do a table plan, but I think in our case it will be too hard with 300+ guests and cousins and friends and neighbours

I think maybe I was expecting to see the bride and groom having a melt down at the pressure of DIYing so much, glue gunning tea cups to their heads by accident or something :o0 Thought they did a fantastic job. Was laughing at having the school kids putting things together, my friend is a teacher and I'm always slagging her saying when she gets married art class for the year will involve invitations, mass booklets, table plans, favours etc!

Awkward Annie that is a great price for all the printing.
