Wedding day make-up?!

Wedding day make-up?!

Postby missbouquet » Sun Nov 21, 2021 12:11 am

I'm getting married Aug 2011, in Italy and plan on attempting my own make-up. Need to start checking out a good foundation that won't slide around in the heat. I'm pretting low maintenance when it comes to make-up, in that I don't like to feel like I'm wearing any and don't touch it up through the day.Any ideas on products? I'm based in the north and wondering of anyone knows of places to go to get advice for wedding make-up?
Also so pleased this thread is still available for Northern brides, well done WOL.ie!! :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll :o)ll

estee lauder DW does stay on all day, but I do find it a bit heavy. They do a "light" version.

Like you, getting married in spain and have been practising doing my own for months and researching. NOw I'm thinking that with all the money I've spent trying out different foundations, buying brushes and other bits and pieces, I could have paid the 120 euro for the lady over there to do it! So now I'm considering just getting it done over there, as I'll end up spending even more money trying stuff out for next 6 months.

I found the Bobbi Brown makeup manual a really useful book. Also Mac and Bobbi Brown websites allow you to email a makeup artist for advice, which I did and got great responses from them.

Even though you want your makeup to be natural, this is actually really hard to achieve and needs practice :o(

trying Mac face and body next, it's supposed to photograph well and is quite light.

I'm a makeup artist......

Dont put moisturiser on as a base. It will just slide off. Either nothing under, or a small bit of primer which contains sylicon. I am a fan of estee lauder doublewear too, however one of the things id suggest is to set ur make up with powder, a translucent powder (laura mercier is good, just try to get something very white or pale), and that on top of estee lauder can look a bit heavy, and for a daytime natural look you dont want that. Stila light illuminating foudation is good, as its light then wont look too heavy with a powder on top.

Google stila, its hard to get anywhere but online. Ebay will have some at £7.99, usually the 20 watt. There are different colours and go in watts. i.e 10 watts, 20 watts, 30 watts etc. I usually keep 2 or 3 then mix them, i.e a 60 watt and a 10 watt to get the colour I want. It can be expensive to buy every colour they have.

For me personally I actually mix a little stila into my estee lauder., Use a foundation brush and go in circles everywhere, ever up behing your ears if ur having an up style !

Hi!

Im a make up artist & have worked at three weddings in Italy from Tuscany to Lake Como! Are you getting married in a church or another location? The churches are normally quite grand in Italy, marble and cool...which is good for make up! Also if your ceremony is outdoor they are often when the sun starts to go down, worthwhile mentioning just in case!

What I used on the brides I worked with was first of all NO moisturiser! I know this will feel weird after your shower but trust me, as previous make up artist said, it will slide! Use a light primer all over like smashbox photofinish, dont use MAC prep & prime its too greasy. Give the primer a good few minutes to soak into the skin and settle. Use a foundation brush, not the flat paintbrush one, the one that looks almost like a blusher brush with long arm, that really sets the foundation into your skin. I love Estee Lauder double wear but not for day time in Italy, its too heavy. If you were mad keen to use it be sparingly and spread it out in circles, again as the other make up artist suggested. Get yourself a velour puff, this will be your best friend! MAC blot powder in medium to dark is a great pressed powder used to set your make up, dont go mad though! It will look caked! Pat the puff into the powder, then on the back of your hand to remove excess then pat/dot lightly over the foundation, main areas are the T zones!

It sounds daunting but practice makes perfect! Why dont you book a make up trial lesson? Take step by step pics or video on your phone? Save you the brain damage of trying to remember it all!

If you need any further help please just shout!

Good Luck!
Nikki

Hi Guys,

Thanks a million for all the great advice :lvs Think i'll ask santa for the bobbi brown manual! Gonna also invest in velour powderpuff and a good make-up brush too (heard the mac one was good) Was going to buy a flat one but think ill opt for a round one now thanks to all your expert advice. I have just spent a small fortune in Este Lauder! Night repair cream, pore minimiser, hydrationist moisturiser, illuminator etc..... I suppose I want to get started with a good skin care regime betwen now and next August and it will make the warpaint effort a little easier. Taking skin, hair and Nail supplements also and they are amazing, can see the difference in a couple of weeks.

Tried the Double Wear light and it gives really good coverage, but not convinced its what I want to have on my skin in the August heat. Also all the girls behind the counters have that really 'made up' look which scares me off a little......they also suggested gold eyes and red lips for the wedding day :o0 so will try Stila (few diffferent watts and then as I get a little darker with tanning etc I can blend the right colour for my skin). I def need to try a few different products and need to find the right primer..

thanks again guys O-O

I wouldn't go for a liquid foundation at all tbh. Especially not Estee Lauder Doublewear - very heavy and I wouldn't trust it with the heat there!!

I'm not a professional but I spend a good bit of time abroad and therefore I would recommend:
Smashbox Primer - excellent stuff
Bare Escentuals mineral foundation. This gives excellent coverage, doesn't "melt" and gives that healthy glow to compliment the bride glow you will surely have
Mac liner for eyes & lips, a good eyeshadow - Isa Dora is great with eyeshadows & reasonably priced
Waterproof mascara - Maybelline has fantastic mascara
Blusher - Powder blusher to sit on the powder/mineral foundation

I would definitely suggest investing in a good set of make up brushes for application. They would make the job soo much easier!
Love is not a matter of counting the years ... But making the years count.

+1 on Stila make-up. I love their stuff.
Also for great coverage and that light feeling I would recommend Bare escentuals, bare mineral foundation. It's great and really light.
I used to buy Bare Escentuals and Stila online, but lately Brown Thomas have a decent range of Bare escentuals stock in. You can get starter packs which are very handy.
