Refusal Percentage rate

Refusal Percentage rate

Postby Smallpackage » Sat Feb 11, 2022 8:56 pm

Hi girls, this is all new to me so I'm just wondering is there an approximate percentage of invitation refusals you can nearly count on??

Or is that crazy talk?!

We are hoping to have a small day thing and then bigger evening bash and Id love everyone to come to our wedding but the venue we like is tight on numbers for the evening.

apparently our hotel have a 25% refusal rate on 2012 weddings so far this year but these were all for weddings bigger than 300+ guests so i think when you go to such a big wedding, the refusal rate is higher as you are inviting less close people.
we need minimum numbers for our hotel and if we have a 25% refusal rate we won't meet the minimum numbers but don't want to invite people for the sake of making up the numbers so its a tough one

Hi morningsun, thats great that the hotel was able to give you those stats. It is such a predicament, so hard to know what to do.

I actually cannot fathom inviting over 300 people. I don't have enough friends!

We had a refusal rate of nearly 25% for a Friday wedding in a neutral location, i.e. both sides of the wedding had to travel to it. We invited 225 and 56 weren't able to make it. Good luck with all your plans!

Be very careful with refusal rates - I've heard numerous stories of people who invited X amount of peoples, expecting 20% to refuse...but they didn't!

We had quite a high refusal rate actually. Ours was a Thursday in April and the refusal rate was about 40 per cent.

I hear that's very high though - part of that was some of our guests live abroad and couldn't make it back to Ireland for the wedding and then closer to the time more people dropped out as they couldn't make it.

However my sister invited 100 people to her wedding and 92 sat down for dinner.

Another girl I know only had two people refuse, so she had an almost 100 per cent acceptance rate.

You can never tell really. Sometimes you will get the high refusal rate and other times you won't, and all the guests will say yes.

A lot of people these days are doing immediate family and close friends to the ceremony/dinner and then everybody else to the afters for dancing and some buffet food and it goes down really well. So if you want to do that, go for that, it'd be lovely!

Just bumping up this thread. we are playing the waiting game with the rsvps! Would love to hear what other peoples refusals rates were. Maybe also state what day u held your wedding on as that obviously seems to affect the percentage. we've had a few who cant get the Friday off. It appears to be much more difficult for ppl to take the day from work.

ours ended up being 26% refusal after hotel telling us to estimate 25% refusal so they weren't far off with their statistics.

anecdotelly from here and real life I reckon a 25 - 30 % refusal is very normal for weddings this year so far.

We invited about 220 and so far 45 aren't coming. Wedding is on a Friday but the main people not coming are from abroad.
