Anyone have their Wedding in Moyvalley or been to one?

Anyone have their Wedding in Moyvalley or been to one?

Postby livster82 » Sat Apr 21, 2022 2:09 pm

We went to look at this venue on Friday and really like it. They offered us a great package as well. We are looking at having our drinks reception in Balyna House and the meal in the Hotel.

Obviously because of its financial problems we have our concerns. Our main worry is the food and the drink. Also a little concerned about the rooms in the hotel although I am not to worried about them.

Any info good or bad would be great as we are about to book it. Cheers

I had my wedding here, found it great, food was fantastic and everyone commented on how beautiful the meal was, we tailored it to our preferences, so went a la carte, mix & matched dishes, and asked for a starter and dessert not on their list and they accommodated us no problem.

If you want any more info, just ask there were very little reviews available when we booked it too, so I was a bit nervous at the time would have liked someone to answer a few questions for me!!!

Cheers for that. When did you get married there?

Did you have your reception in the House or Hotel?

I've heard they were in serious finacial difficult but not sure what their actual status regarding receivership/new investors currently is. I would say don't rule it out if you love it but do your research very carefully and study your contract :)

We had the drinks reception in Balyna House I had 200 guests, so it was packed for the drinks reception, then we had the meal in the Hotel.

they were in financial difficulty when i booked too and it had no impact on my wedding. There are so many hotels in trouble, its no more of a risk than many other venues across Ireland.

Moyvalley is great if like me you like to have the freedom to do what you want with it, they were very accommodating to any requests I made, the food was excellent, they made sure the bar was well stocked, we had full access to it from the moment the last wedding before us was finished, it was so close to my home place so really handy for me to pop in each evening and do a bit, I could have picked somewhere else but I wouldn't have got the same access to setting up, and I got a great deal after many hard negotiations . I wouldn't have picked anywhere else for these reasons, it ticked the right boxes for me. I guess you have to figure out what you want from your venue, I would say I might have taken a slightly different approach to most brides but the staff were so flexible with me and what I wanted to do, especially Teresa and John, I also have to mention the lady who takes care of setting up the banquet room, I dont know her name but she was the most helpful lady ever. In my mind I had a great wedding at Moyvalley from my experience I can say, hand on heart it was the perfect venue for us and the type of wedding we wanted.

hi i too am considering the hotel. went to meet lana in oct last year and she showed us round, gave us details etc but it was hard to see what it would be like for a wedding as the place was ghostly empty - worrying at the time!, however the packages kept me interested, and it is ideally located for both of our families and loved the bridal cottage - best of both worlds i think. we would be having 80-100 and hoping for the drinks reception in the house - if there's no wedding there that day she said we could have it - and then the meal in the hotel. however i went again last week to show my dad who was just back from abroad for a few days. didnt want to meet with lana as only wanted to give him quick show around but anyway, the whole area was alive with activity from bar people setting up areas to people cutting the grass and cleaning. i was very pleased to see all of this - as i had heard it's a nama hotel and was a bit worried about the upkeep. i then met lana and she showed us the function room in the hotel again and told us there was a wedding in the house the next day and the hotel the day after, and weddings every weekend for most of the year - very impressive! the function room was set up - yay! and had tables of 12 (too big i.m.o) and they had about 10-15 tables so prob for a wedding your size. the things i noticed were the chair covers (cream/beige but v good quality), silverware/glasses (lovely), table linen (lovely again), but the things i love the most about the function room that you get free is the fairy light backdrop behind the top table (i think usually about 200 euro to hire!) and the colour light scheme to match your colour theme which really sets the room off. one thing i would be worried about in the hotel though i that with the room set up for that big of a wedding, some of the tables to the very left were quite a bit away from the the top table. also i am worried about people going into the other bar as it has the balcony which some of the heavier smokers in the family will retire to (prob by 10pm!!) any other moyvalley brides have any advice on this?

hi

didnt have reception in hotel but we had similiar concerns about people disappearing down to cellar bar but they blocked off the seating area until mid-night and it was a service only bar. maybe they could do something like this in the other bar???
