Ballymagarvey 2013

I invited my BM and her husband to the Sunday and because I had been at the one last year was really looking forward to it and thought my friends would love it. Well when I seen the field was a carpark I was like what the! I cant blame them for trying to make money but it was a bit of a mill and not as relaxed as last years. When I heard the ad on the radio on Tuesday I was thinking they were going hell for leather for people. When we are planting our tree I think I will ask to do it on another night if at all possible cos it was too busy the other night for it to be special.

H2B emailed them today to find out what the craic is with new caterers and why we were'nt told the old ones had gone a large part of the reason for the high price is the food quality so to not inform people that that's changed is unacceptable!

They never bothered to tell us either, I found out on this site and mailed them...it was a bit disappointing from a client relations point of view not to be told...we asked should we have another tasting but they weren't keen so we're not feeling as comfortable over the day now and Sunday didn't really allay our fears...

It is really bad form they didn't tell you!! Interested to see how they explain themselves. There does seem to be a bit of a different feel about the place now doesn't there. I'm also interested to hear about the tasting disaster aswell. Slightly worrying.

Hi All
Never posted on WOL before but watched from afar & really felt I should post something having seen the comments about BMV. We went on Sunday night and were blown away. I don’t know of any other wedding venue that invite their customers in for a free night with food and entertainment???? Did anyone see the show that was put on – it was brill and the fire show after was a great idea, wish I had had it for my own wedding. The cocktail menus where deadly - way to many Passion Fruit Mojitos consumed (amazing!). We left after 3am and the party was still going. I have to say as a past bride I think it is great to be invited back. All I can say is my wedding in March (2012) was with the new caterers and all my friends and family are still raving!!! It couldn't have been any better! :)

I fully agree with Mol77. We got married in Ballymagarvey in Feburary of this year and we were delighted to be invited back to visit Ballymagarvey last Sunday. The work that they put into the night was amazing. We got prosecco on arrival then had a beautiful tree planting ceremony. We also got to catch up with some of the couples that we met on our tasting night in Ballymagarvey, it was lovely to see everyone again and not one of the couples we was talking to had a bad thing to say about there experience in Ballymagarvey.

Being from the local area I know that many of the locals of Kentstown were delighted to also of been invited to visit Ballymagarvey for the night. This may have resulted in larger crowds but I think Ballymagarvey catered to everyone very well. There was great entertainment provided and lovely food. We attended with both our families and we all had a superb night.

sorry WOLS i hadnt seen all of the comments after my comment about the tastings - im scaring everyone!
basicially we were down there in May and met a few couples who had their tasting and werent impressed at all. BMV were really mortified about it and changed the caterers the next day - a friend of mine did attend a wedding there recently and said the food was fab so im hoping they have sorted out whatever happened at the time - its not something im worried about at all, im expecting the food to be very very good as it has a brilliant reputation for food. just trying to put it out of my head now - i guess i can only wait and see how our own tasting goes...
for anyone who has already had their wedding tghere, how did the food go? what are the portions like?
