Small Wedding ... Big Party. Help!
Morning ladies, this is my first proper post on the forum but I've been reading for a while I got engaged about 6 weeks ago and have loosely been putting together some plans in my head. I’ve done up a potential guest list and with 150 people on it this gig isn’t going to come cheap so I’ve been thinking of some alternatives.
We want to pay for as much of the wedding ourselves as we can from savings, our parents will help out a bit with the balance but the aim is not to start off with debt hanging over our heads (not that the bank would loan us anything anyway!). Working out an average budget this could cost us upward of €20k which we A) Just don’t have and B) would rather not spend. I still would love the traditional white church wedding celebrating with family and friends but we might have to start thinking outside the box! I’m hoping someone out there could help point me in the right direction. At the moment I’m thinking of having a small church wedding with dinner afterwards for about 30 people, this would include our close family and friends. Then have a proper “afters” shindig that evening for everyone else. That way we can hopefully invite all the people we would love to spend our day with but without the enormous cost of a sit down dinner. I’d love a venue that could cater for both parts of the day - a small wedding of 30 people for dinner and then a larger function room for the evening festivities … has anyone got any venue suggestions or thought on how I could arrange the day? Thanks in advance Orlee

My sis is doing same they went with Glebe House in Dowth Co. Meath, I haven't seen it yet but it looks sooooo pretty ad have a lil chapel in the grounds.
Look into manor houses they often have big and small rooms ie small dinning room and bigger function room for evening. My friend is having about 70-80 she's going with Boyne Hill house in Meath. Just be aware some places want a max no. on a Fri/Sat of approx 100, we're at about 110/120 ish so not a prob know she had same prob so went manor house route http://manorhousehotels.com/ or boutique hotels are usually bit smaller so you can have your numbers if you want weekend wedding. There are loads of these around depending on what part of the country your getting married in? url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

Re: Small Wedding ... Big Party. Help!
Hi Orlee,
congrats on your engagement & welcome to WOL! +1 on the country manor idea - came accross this article from the One Fab Day blog which has a list of "secret & unusual" (their words) castles/manors which can be rented as wedding evnues - just to give you ideas. http://onefabday.com/10-unusual-irish-wedding-venues/ Otherwise, you could go to a restaurant for dinner & then, if there was a hall or clubhouse or some other suitable venue nearby which you could rent out & decorate, you could go to there for the afters? A regular hotel would probably also be able to cater for what you want, and it would mean you wouldn't have to move venue once the family dinner is over. So you could book the restaurant for dinner & a function room for the afters? Let us know what part of the country you are in so we can make a few suggestions! Re: Small Wedding ... Big Party. Help!
Thanks so much ladies!
Long Acres House looks amazing (from the secret and unusual!) Bellinter House is beautiful (from the Manor House). I'm off to do some investigating
