Dessert Table
Hi All, just wondering has anyone done a dessert table at their wedding or seen it at other weddings?? Not meaning a candy buffet but like a self serve table with different types of desserts on it? Think this is more popular in d states or then here or for relaxed country weddings...Anywho if ye have any feedback of what you thought of it.. Pros & cons...etc let me know x
Re: Dessert Table
Great idea, I would love to do it but we are having a large wedding so I don't think that it would work with people queuing up.
I can also imagine that you would have to have a lot more desert then if it were being served to them as some people may get carried away with their portion sizes or want to try a piece of everything!!!
Re: Dessert Table
The problem with this - that I've seen so far in Ireland - is that the couple wish to bring in desserts from an outside source, a bakery, a patissier, etc, and obviously hotels don't like this if their own chef/pastry chef can do some or all of what the couple are hoping to have served. Then some hotels just don't allow you to bring in any food to serve other than the cake/candy, things they wouldn't make themselves. If anyone is considering this the best thing to do is ask the hotel if it's something they could provide, definitely try asking if you could bring in desserts from an outside caterer/baker but I haven't heard of many people having success with it so far.
Re: Dessert Table
I think it could work. I've been to a marquee wedding that had a dessert table, it was lovely & relaxed and I think everything was already portioned so nobody could be a pig
![]() Our hotel are fine with bringing outside desserts in, but I hadn't actually thought of that, you need to check that before you think about doing it. Re: Dessert Table
Yeah ive been looking at pictures of them online and they look fab! Would agree everything would have to be already individually portioned for it flow well and to make sure everyone got a fair share. Looking at between 120 - 130..so would'nt like everyone to have to queue for ages to get something..havent booked a venue yet (bit ahead of myself) so definately would need to speak to the hotel when we are booking. Thanks for the advice!
Re: Dessert Table
Hey all, in your experience, at what part of the day should this be served? I'm thinking at the drinks reception, as it would be too much after dinner with dessert. Also if it was earlier on the photographer would be able to photograph it, but only if they were in the hotel before the guests, which is unlikely as they will be away doing photographs with us at that time. And another concern is that this would have to be laid out by the hotel if some of the desserts were cheesecakes etc and were perishable. But I think we could indicate with photographs how we would like things set out.
But all in all I think they look great and I am really thinking of having one - is anyone else going to go for it? If so maybe we could discuss the pros and the pitfalls and the solutions. ![]()
