First Fitting - dont like dress..

Hi all, went for my first fitting yesterday and it didnt feel like wow this is my wedding dress at all :o(

I thought the dress was just o.k. I didnt have a really excited moment about it and now dont know if I love it as much as I did - im even asking myself did I really love it in the first place :/ Its quite a typical wedding dress white, strapless, full skirt and I think its very predicable and looking around at all the others i am now thinking what have I done!! Did any of ye feel like this about your dress? Have doubts?

I haven't started my dress hunt yet but it sounds like this is something which everyone goes through - a little moment of panic of "have I chosen the right one". There is so much pressure on for the "perfect dress". Was anyone with you when you had your fitting who could give you their opinion?
There must have been something special about the dress when you chose it. Try not to be downhearted - I bet you will change your mind

I am terrified this will be at my first fitting. But try not to panic, when you tried it on did you put on all the bits and pieces with it, veil, shoes etc did you have hair and makeup similar to what you will have on your wedding day? Could you picture how you will look on the day and not just what you look like at the fitting. Did you love it when you bought it? If you did it is probably just nerves.

I have definately had this and I may well have it again.

My words of wisdom are as follows - don't accept alteration that are not 100% what you wanted - you have the right to ask for the alterations you want and to get them. Sometimes people are unhappy with things like this as it hasn't been tweaked as they imagined.

Secondly, your dress is a beautiful gown that will float around you as you walk and give you a beautiful feminine shape, remember that is why so many brides go for this shape - it also is incredibly flattering and photographs beautifully.

Try to remember why you loved it, you will probably love it again.

Oh no,

Well just remember that this is the day you have been looking forward to since you were a little girl and if you don't feel wow about your dress then it is not to late to change your mind!!! You only get one day to feel like a princess for the day (unless you are a princess of course) and if you are not feeling it then it is not too late!!!!

One bit of advise from me would be, get your closest friends, sisters or Mother to go with you and give their honest opinion. Pop on some false tan (if you are wearing it) for the next fitting and be sure you have your hair nice and shoes on.....then if you are really not feeling it then.... it is not to late!!!

For what it is worth I think it sounds amazing and timeless.... perhaps even look into different accessories to compliment the dress and of course flowers ;) but if after all this you are still unsure then... defo have a look even on the buy and sell forum here!! Good luck with it xx

+1 I'm terrified about this also :eek

+1 to everything highbeam has said - have you tried on everything with the dress - your veil & jewellery and your hair done the way it will be done on the day - all those little bits & pieces can make such a difference.

awh poor you. Its an awful feeling. Firstly try and remember why that was the dress you loved and bought. Is there any alteration you can do to it. Can you add straps or a sash or even a brooch for some added detail/bling. For you second fitting take all your accessories and pin your hair up so you can get a more bride feel.

I think every bride feels like this. I certainly did.. Even the week of the wedding i hated it and felt like crying. But the morning of the wedding when i had hair/tan/make-up accessories and all on i loved it

Do you want to post a pic and maybe we can give you some suggestions if you like.

I think no matter what dress it was I would be feeling like this a little maybe? Plus yesterday I was rushing up from school to try it on, rushing home for training and maybe I just didn't give myself enough time! For next fitting i'm going to get a hair trail done and take a day at it

Also, it was just my little sister who was with me who has no interest in weddings so maybe if I take someone different the next day it might help! wow theres is nothing predictible or old fashioned about that dress. Its BEAUTIFUL.. :heartbeat:

I think there is so much excitement and hype about a first dress fitting and the fact that you were rushing about like crazy and with someone who didnt seem too interested just weighed on you. You didnt have the time to relax and enjoy the experience. Im sure when you go after your hair trial and bring someone who is excited you will change your mind

Oh wow that is an absolutely gorgeous dress!!!! I honestly wouldn't have any worries about this dress, it is definately elegant and timeless. As you said, give yourself more time next time and make it an occassion, maybe even bring a little bottle of bubbly.... let the celebrations begin early :o)ll
