Choosing readings and all that malarkey!

Choosing readings and all that malarkey!

Postby PalomaSeven » Wed May 09, 2022 7:44 pm

Hi girls,

Despite all the multiple posts about mass booklets I am still really confused about how to do them!
How do you go about choosing the readings? Do you just google 'wedding readings' or am I being ridiculous?
Do all ceremonies have the same amount of readings and prayers?
We were thinking of havinga ceremony without the mass, the priest said this was fine and actually was the way it used to always be done.
But I am confused about how to know what I have to put into it.
Does everyone 'draft' their own ceremony and then send it to the priest to approve it?

Any advice appreciated as I feel lost! :eek

Thanks :wv

Even without a mass, the nuptial rite will still have a first reading, psalm, second reading, gospel acclamation and gospel. And you can choose all the prayers for the whole thing. There are loads of books you can pick up in veritas and places with all the options. We haven't reached this stage just yet so I might be wrong but you can choose them all. If you don't have favourites or aren't too pushed to choose it all yourself then a template is probably the best way to go with or talk to your priest about what he would recommend!

Spillingmoonbeans is right. The only thing is the 1st reading must be from the old testament, 2nd reading new testament, gospel from the choice of gospels (I dunno what book). I got the books I also just googled church wedding readings, a lot of parish websites have selections up too.

Just read through them and pick the ones you like the most.

You can then also pick a non religious reading for your communion reflection (if your having one)
