How did you react when he proposed???

It was very funny! We used to be obsessed with this really sad-looking dilapidated Manor House near where we lived and used to drive out and peer in the windows tutting at how beautiful it was and how sad that it was running into ruin. People have weddings there with a marquee and one night after a few glasses of wine we were talking about it and I said I couldn't understand why someone would get married at a ruin (portaloos!) and said it'd only be good for getting engaged at. His face dropped. He looked at me and said "you've no idea what you've just ruined there". I was shocked but brushed it off. A few months later I got home from work and he'd made a plan to take me driving his car (he'd just put me on his policy) so we went for a drive with me dictating where we went. Eventually we ended up at the house and we got out for our usual peek. He was being very grumpy and I didn't know why... until he dropped onto one knee!

I had NO idea, I had honestly thought there wasn't a hope he'd do it there after I'd spoiled it and I'd actually brought us there (he said he'd used subliminal messaging to get me down there!). I just said "is this real?" a few times over until he eventually said his knee was getting wet so I said "Yes!" and burst out crying. I was laughing and crying and shaking and a bit of a mess so I asked him to drive home... which he replied "NO!" because he'd had a few whiskeys for Dutch Courage! It was perfect and funny! Lovely stories by the way girls! :heartbeat:

I kind of knew it was coming... :o)ll just didn't expect that day!!

He took me to "our restaurant"... it's where we went on our first date and was really special to both of us...and after starter was cleared, he said "I can't wait anymore! I was going to do this at Xmas, but I just can't wait another minute"... and went down on one knee... it was amazing (and super embarrassing!!) I went bright red... so much so I could feel my cheeks literally burning, and the whole restaurant were watching!! I just said "you know I will" and half crying/half laughing he gave me a smacker of a kiss and the whole restaurant started clapping, maitre'd brought down a bottle of vintage champagne on the house with his felicitations and people kept coming up, shaking hands, congratulating and asking to see the ring(which he'd bought that day! Although I did choose it a while before!) I had stupidest grin on my face for the rest of the night!!!

I had organised a night in the Village at Lyons just before Xmas. We were using up a voucher that his sister, who works there had gotten us. We had been saving all year to go travelling so hadn't been away anywhere in ages. I thought I had organised the weekend etc but turns out I knew nothing.
It was at the time of huge snow fall that christmas and when we arrived out there it was magical. First thing i said when we got out of the car was "I want to get married here". I was only messing but little did I know what was going to happen. That night we were collected from our apartment in a little golf buggy. The bar manager was so nice to us and suggested we go any take a look at the ballroom, that had just been done up.We had plenty of time before dinner so agreed. The general manage met us at the door, I thoguht he was just going out. He also was so nice to us. When we arrived into the ballroom it was gorgeous. Every table was lit with candles (I actually didn't realise how much effort they put in until after, kind of thought it was like that all the time lol). We went in and the bar manager said he was going to turn on some lights. We walked down the staircase to the main floor where there is a wall of windows looking out onto a waterfall. It was beautiful so I immediately went over to look. I was standing there getting my camera out of my bag to take some photos when i hear some music come on. I thought it was so nice of him to put on music. Then i heard OH call my name, think i was in a daze with the waterfall so didn't turn around. Again i heard my name and i was thinking "jezz gimme a minute" another call of my name this time a bit angry and i turned around to see OH standing in the middle of the room looking up at the wall above the Fireplace. I coudln't understand what he was doing. I started to walk over and he was beckoning me to look up. I looked up and I saw a photo of me......

I was like what's going on.

He pulled me in close and told me just to watch. I realised then that it was Damien Rice The blowers Daughter playing....our song.

I started to figure out what was going on. There was a slideshow playing and I was the star.

It was the story of our lives together and included all our familes and friends. Even had some comedy. At the end he was sitting in our apartment in our Budda bag in our apartment with a sign asking me to marry him. At that point I was just in shock. He was shaking like a leaf behind me at the same time. He then went down on one knee with a ring.

He had to ask me 3 times before words would come out.
I was just in such shock. I always thought I would know before it happened as he is the worst person for keeping a secret. After being togetehr 8 years at the time I thought I could tell when he was hiding something.

Of course I said yes. We went on to have the most fantastic night that neither of us will ever forget.

Turns out the whole place knew all about the proposal for weeks and even had a meeting on it to make sure it all went well.

Im all tingly after writing that down!

Sorry its so long, there is no short version!

I laughed A LOT.

We had talked about it for a while so I knew it would happen just didn't know when
We were on holidays in Oz and sitting out one evening whale watching I said - "This is a first for me, and you have had so many firsts this holiday" ( I had been to Oz before but he hadn't)

Then he replies - "This is also a first for me" and produces a ring I got in a party pack years ago and always joked about it being an engagement ring.
After a lot of laughing about him bringing the ring with him I finally said "Are you serious"

Then I insisted on wearing the ring around looking like some 12year old and of course all the people on the campsite who were sitting nearby joined in our celebrations and we had a great night.

The only thing looking back on it now - someone said to me when I was telling the story "It's weird the whales reminded him to ask you"!!!! :-8

Oh Frenchtoast! Your story was so lovely (and excellently written). When you described your OH 'shaking like a leaf' it reminded me so much of mine trying to keep his voice steady to ask me.

Lovely stories girls!

We'd talked about it loads and then he planned a surprise dinner starting in the pub where we met before moving on to a restaurant so I kinda knew it was coming but then as dinner went on there was still no engagement so I'd put it out of my head. We ordered dessert and when mine came out, my ring was there on the side of my dessert :xox . I just burst into tears (seriously sobbed like a child!) but it was amazing. Everyone in the restaurant was cheering and it was lovely because lots of the people from the tables around us came and congratulated us afterwards. The restaurant also threw in some champagne for us! Literally though for weeks afterwards, any time anyone asked to see my ring, I started welling up- just so happy! What am I going to be like on the day?!!

Thanks Eleanor Rigby. I love that I have the slideshow now to look back on plus he had it all printed out as a book when we got back to the apartment that night too :lvs
He's a softie at heart but is very worried about what his bestmen are going to do, pretty sure there will be a slideshow in there somewhere :yelrotflmaosmilie:
