'Walking up the aisle' music

'Walking up the aisle' music

Postby Leanne2112 » Mon Sep 17, 2022 8:57 pm

So today myself and my mother took a sneaky trip out to the church I'm getting married in after their mass was over, it's not our parish and neither of us could remember how many pews there were etc so we went out to take pictures. We were chatting about where the singer and guitarist would be going and Mam all of a sudden looked panicked and asked how they would play the wedding march without an organ.......
So I tell Mam I'm not having that played as I walk up the aisle, that I didn't think it was really a big thing anymore, she convinced me it was, so can anyone settle an argument? Do most weddings have this? What did you/will you have?

No its not the done thing anymore really! Im having a harpist who will be playing an Irish song when I walk up the aisle. Ive been at weddings where Pachelbel's Canon was played and another one where My Heart Will Go On was played so its totally up to yourself!

No haven't heard an organ at a wedding in years. I had a guitarist and she played my entrance song. I didn't have the bridal march I had Enya's Only Time played.
As other poster said its entirely up to yourself.

Also a thing I see more and more at weddings is the entrance song being played on a CD player and the rest done by a musician.

I've never heard it at any wedding i was at.I had a harpist playing Canon in D,twas beautiful! The good thing about this piece of music is that it can be as long or short as needs be for you to walk up the aisle.

I've heard Pachelbel's Canon at most weddings I've been to so I'd say it's definitely more common than the wedding march at this stage. I had a harpist play Inis Oirr for our ceremony and it was beautiful.

I actually did walk up the aisle to the 'traditional' wedding march, played on the harp. I've also heard various organ pieces at different church weddings, such as Trumpet Voluntary. We had canon in D playing as we said our vows.

I was at a wedding where there was organ music, not many with the wedding march but it's up to the individual and whatever they want.
I don't think anyone would be shocked if you didn't have it so I wouldn't select it on that basis.

I think it's a matter of personal choice - as in i personally cannot stand it! however if you are a traditional bride, or if it doesnt really matter to you and ur mam might freak out if you dont have it, then maybe it's better to have it. i'm having celine dion's first time ever i saw your face sung by a singer with a guitar accompanying. however, i think some (old) priests can be sticklers and will only allow the traditional songs or at the very most classical/religious music - as in not the 'modern' songs. so might be a good idea to just check with them. hth

Hi Leanne,

I am having 'she moves through the fair' played by string quartet for my entrance, its beautiful. I cringe at the thought of the Wedding March tbh!! :innocent:

I am also having 'all you need is love' by the beatles blasted out in the style of love actually at the end! CANT WAIT! :hyper:

Ah, thanks everyone!!! Loads of data to feed back to Mam :) It's so nice to hear what everyone is having, I'm having an awful time deciding but I definitely wouldn't have picked the here comes the bride thing, kind of surprised my mother thought I would, haha.

Had the exact same argument with my Mother! Right up to the day before!

She hated my Aisle music but so many people commented on it afterwards that she had to admit it made it so romantic.

We had First time ever I saw your face sung by two fabulous singers. It was back tingling as one of my friends called it.

Love it! We're having the Ramones "Baby I love you" blasting out for the end... it'll set the tone nicely for the rest of the evening! Far more sedate entrance song though... I'm having Andrea Boccelli "Chiara" - our first date was to see him in concert so he had to be featured somewhere!

I think the mummys like the bit of tradition - mine was appalled we're not thinking of a top table and really wanted me to throw the bouquet. But I think more out of a sense of "isn't that the way its always done" rather than thinking any more deeply about it. Once I explained to her our reasoning behind not wanting either, she understood. (But would still love the "glory" of sitting at a top table haha!)

We had Annies Song sung as I went up the Aisle and while some thought that this was "inappropriate" we liked it and it meant something to us. My DH didnt know what it was I had chosen as I wanted it as a surprise so when he heard it, he knew that it was really special. Go with whatever you want as it is what will trigger great memories for you and your Hubby that matters... :)
