Wedding Gift

Wedding Gift

Postby clarenenes » Tue Sep 18, 2022 12:26 pm

Hi.
I was wondering what the average money gift is to give as a guest at a wedding. We have two weddings one day after the other and we were wondering what is the normal amount to give in these times. We used to give €200 as a couple but not sure what to give now.

Thanks
Clarenenes. x

Hey
I suppose it depends on your situation- We are both working so we generally give 200 as a couple

We try and give €150 but maybe more or add a little present if they're particularly close friends - totally depends on your circumstances.

It totally depends on your circumstances and what you can afford. We would give €150 or €200 if we knew them very well.

Plenty of threads on this lately, key points:

- give what you can afford
- this may change downwards if you have to travel/ pay accomodation / sell your first born to get to the wedding
- this may change upwards for close friends or family / if you are in the bridal party
- if you are married and the couple attended youighg give them back the same amount they gave you
- different expectations exist in different cultures / countries eg Spainish might be higher, English typically lower
- for a million and one reasons there is no consensus but many people give €100 or €150 or €200 per couple

I might start a poll if I can figure it out on my phone

I agree with previous post - think that is a great summary of previous discussions here.
We ourselves usually give 200for close friends/family and 150 for those we would not know as well. We are both working (although struggling hugely!!)
I would always personally want to give enough to cover the cost of my dinner.

God when i read these types of topics i feel so stingy! We only give 100 for wedding and that would be for cousins i think. Not that we're getting married for this reason, but i really don't think our wedding will pay for itself now as we will be the first couple of our friends to get married so they prob wont know what to give. Also h2b's family are from north and for his sister's wedding they gave like 20 euro per family.

In my opinion I would still only give the 100 that we normally do even after hearing other people's opinions as that is what we can afford and the day costs so much in itself by the time you get to the venue and most people only really want to see your face! Also i adore cards and cannot wait to have like a hundred of them even if they're all empty!!! - ok maybe not them all >:o)
