Lamb or Pork?

Postby BubblyLass » Wed Sep 19, 2022 9:42 am

Hi Wollies

Looking for some opinions please. We have had our menu tasting and whilst we were blown away by the fish option we chose (were definitely having that), we weren't mad on the beef. It was grand but do you really want the food at your wedding to be just "grand". So the other options we could go for are the lamb or the pork. Which would you choose? Also if any of you are Ballymagarvey Brides and Grooms, have you tasted either of these? We didn't get to try them so would be choosing blind.

Thanks :wv

Lamb for me, I'd eat Pork if there was no other option but wouldnt choose it over any other meat or fish!

Why cant you taste the other options? I would ask for a second tasting when you arent happy with the beef.

The lamb sounds lovely and loin is such a nice cut so that would edge it for me. Having said that, I'd eat the pork too. Both sound delicious.

I think I'd be asking for another tasting too though.

We chose pork for our wedding meal & it was fab.
Everyone thought it was an unusual choice for a wedding and something different from the normal beef.
I would advise you to go with what you preferred at the tasting, we definitely prefered the pork at our tasting the beef was grand as you say and we did consider it as a safe option but glad we picked what we wanted in the end & nobody complained to us anyway.

Despise lamb so voted pork. Pork would be different at a wedding.
Like others have said I would ask for another tasting if you were not happy after the first.

Thanks for the replies and the votes everyone. I think pork might be the safer option alright. Myself and OH both absolutely love lamb but I think a lot of people either don't like the taste or don't like the thought of lamb, IYKWIM.

The only thing throwing me is that I don't really know what a marsala sauce is going to taste like - anyone have any idea?

Hi Bubblylass,

If i had the choice i would base it on the season in which you are getting married - I am having a spring wedding so have choosen Lamb for my meat, If i was getting married in Winter and given the same choice i would definatly go with Pork. Everyone who knows abit about their food will appreciate the choice.

Also the accompaniment for the Lamb totally wins over Pork in my opinion!! :)

Best of Luck

The lamb sounds amazing - im hungery just thinking about it. It beats the pork dish hands down. Also pork can be very dry so I tend to avoid it as a main when I am eating out!

I would normally be 100% for the lamb but I don't like apricots :) They both look amazing though, in fairness!

I'm a Ballymagarvey bride and have tasted both. The pork was fab. We went with the beef as we thought that was lovely too (must of been at a different tasting!) but the pork was a very close second!

Surely it depends on the cut of lamb and the way it's being cooked?! We're having a winter wedding and having slow cooked lamb shank in a rich red wine sauce as an option... the perfect wholesome winter warmer!! But then again lamb is my absolute favourite... find it so much tastier than pork!

But yes, sinead I completely agree about the seasonality where possible!

I don't like either, but if it came to choosing, I'd order the lamb and pick at it.

I'm not a picky eater I swear, but I don't like lamb or pork. So if those were the options I'd pick the fish if available or ask for a veggie dinner.

Kinsale you are my clone!!! I am having Braised Lamb Shank aswell!! (Mine with a mint infused jus)

Lamb is my total fav too....nothing beats a slow braised shank! And yes irregardless of season the way a shank is cooked ensure's the meat is tender, I think you cant go wrong with it :o0 :o0

Yum!
