hog roast

Pig on spit

Postby ianmannix » Wed Jan 07, 2022 3:10 pm

Hi, sounds great - Im doing the same thing in june - www.rotarypig.ie
I think they take the head off it, but I dont think you would be put off - its meant to taste amazing as well, and pretty good value compared to a hotel.

Yes, we were going to use www.rotarypig.ie (owned by Matt Lord and Susie Lord) too for a wedding in June this year, but they have let us down 4 weeks before the wedding with the excuse that they would not be able to provide the service we are looking for and it's better to be disappointed 4 weeks before than on the day!!!
Before that they gave us the spiel that it's all no problem and everything is possible. We had to track down their private phone number to even get in contact with them. They didn't reply to any of our emails, phone calls, texts for almost an entire month!

My advice: Stay well away from this dodgy company!!!

Hi There,

I think it's a great idea!! Myself & H2B have our own private catering company & most of our summer BBQ bookings are requesting spit roast Hog/ suckling pig! Its a great talking point & the meat is absoloutly gorgeous when cooked well . As for the Veggies just make sure you have something to cater for their tastes & you should be fine.. It's nice to do something different for the afters in my opinion & we will most likely be doing it for our wedding

I am drooling at the very thoughts of it, I think it's a brilliant idea....I'd say once you provide plenty of veg, bread, cheeses, salads or whatever for veggies or any people that might not like the thoughts of eating that type of meat you'll be fine....

Pig on a spit

Postby ianmannix » Mon Jul 13, 2022 4:22 pm

I had my wedding a few weeks ago in Sligo, and used Rotary Pig ( www.rotarypig.com)
I cant say enough about how good they were, really cool, laid back guys, who produced great food and everything looked and tasted great. The pigs looked amazing as they roasted, and the guests were really interested, coming over to see how they were being cooked - it added a bit of 'theatre' to the event.

Defintly this was just what we wanted, and I was really happy with the price, service and professionalism of Matt and Jason. Id reccomend them to everyone.

Love this idea! Nowt better than the smell of freshly roasting meat mmm. We are considering doing this for our afters if we can afford it - go for it I say. The chances of anyone being offended are v slim

Sounds like a good idea! Where do they cook it? In the garden or in the ballroom? Also, would they do it as late as the afters food would be, i.e. 10.30 pm? If it is in a hotel, how have the hotels been with the idea of outsiders cooking food in the hotel? *)

My bf wants to have a spitroast the day after. Very expensive >€500 for a hog roast but we were at one before and we had great fun and its a great day out.
We still haven't decided but my sister is a chef and says she will help my bf out.

My friend had this & it was just amazing. It cost her €1400 though, which IMO was an absolute rip-off, especially as the pig came out for 20 mins & was then wheeled away. I kidd you not.

Challas Hog Roast are also worth a look. Really friendly staff. They arrive on the day with all equipment and food and give a really good service. Tidy too!

They provide hog roast catering for the Dublin and Belfast areas. Their website has a handy quote form too. Worth checking out if your planning to book a hog roast caterer. Prices clearly listed on website too.

Food is so tasty! I'm getting hungry now! http://www.challasroast.com

Worth checking out www.thediner.ie he specialises in outside catering and hog roasts. Its worth a check we were very happy with them and the staff. The salads and breads to go along with the hog roast were lovely and the differnt sauces as well. Everybody enjoyed it and he also did our evening food in the 50s catering trailer.

Hope this is helps you out!!!

Im a vegetarian and i would'nt be in the slightest bit offended!

I mean come on the animal hasnt been killed in front of you(if it was id have an issue) and nothing bad is being done apart from it been cooked in traditional methods! I'd be more offeneded/annoyed if there was alot of waste with it! But knowing us good irish folk that wouldnt be to much of as issue! I think if a vegetarian has an issue they are prob the preachy type who have issues walking by the meat section in tesco and like a bit of drama! Each to there own i say!
