evening food - chip van

fish and chips

Postby trinabee » Wed Aug 06, 2022 11:35 am

I'm not sure where your based but Unique Dining have a cute van for E850 to serve fish & chips, it says hire of van and all beverages and food included in the price but i'd ring them to double check, just google unique dining for their contact details. i know they are prepared to travel around the country. Otherwise i'd check out the local chippy for authentic looking van and fare!!

think its a great idea, thinking of it myself for a bit of a laugh.

Think that's a class idea and great talking point, people will always remember your wedding that's for sure, I know what one poster is saying about not being that hungry in the evening but I'm sure your evening guests will be thankful, great idea!

Great idea, I was at a wedding last year in edinburgh where they did that and we still talk about it yet, the hotel would not allow the van in there carpark for health and saftey resons so they just parked outside everyone loved it

I think it is fab too, I'd consider having it for ours but as our wedding is on NYE, I reckon the chip vans will have plenty of business anyhow. I'd consider it for the next days booze up if the budget stretched to it; I wonder are any available in the west or are they just Dublin based?

:o0 I thought this was a joke post when i read it first but after having been to my 5th wedding so far this year I've just realised how the same/boring they all are, no one seems to have the guts to do something completely different so I say go for it, I actually hate sandwiches after a feed of drink. Not sure if the hotel will allow it and also how many would be at the wedding (not forgetting evening guests) things might get out of hand if they all bombard the van together!

Hi Girls ,

i am new to the board and read the post of someone looking for a chip van for afters , i own a chip van that does fab home-cut chips (genuine !!) cut there in front of you and freshly battered cod (succulent fresh cod deep fried in a delicious beer batter ) this can be served as goujons or a whole fish in paper wrapping for your quests .

Please let me know your location if you are interested and we could work out a deal :wv

I had never thought of this market until i read this post :o)ll and i need to research the fact of serving on the premises but i presume it is not a problem as your serving from your own licensed mobile premises which is covered under your private insurance and if it was ok with the hotel then there is no problem.

Please pm if you or anybody else is interested O-O

I was at a wedding before where the after food was hot dogs. As others said any change from cheese and ham sandwiches is a refreshing one! And Ive heard tell (and God I wish I knew these couples) of rasher sandwiches being served for the afters.

My only qualm about the chip van is
1) Would all the guests leave the reception at the same time and go outside? That would leave the reception a bit sad and empty for anyone who didnt fancy chipper chips. And what if the weather is bad and no one wants to go outside to a chip van?
and
2) Although, as I said lots of people will be delighted to have chips at that hour, you do need to prepare yourself for guests who might think that rather than fun its a bit unclassy - a la the Snapper.

But as for having chips as the afters food I say great idea - anything other sandwiches is good in my book.

i think this is a savage idea, i would love to do it myself except i know that hotel wont allow it - no way. it expressly says no food may be brought onto or consumed on premises unless it come out of thier own kitchen ;(

(Anyone who is thinking of doing this i would say read the fine print of your contract first)

I like the idea of hot dogs at midnight though, was going to have bacon rolls but hot dogs is a much better idea... going to ask the hotel if tehy will do hot dogs instead ;)

We didn't have a van but we did have mini fish and chips (along with the obligatory sandwiches and sausies) for our evening food. The hotel organised them for us and they were wrapped up in little newspaper cones and went down a treat. Everyone was talking about them, it was like going to the chipper after beer.
