Which wine are you having?
Where are you getting it i.e. are you going with hotel wine or corkage?
RE: corkage- know of any good deals you'd like to share with fellow b2bs?

I want to go for BYO wine it just depends on what kind of deals I get.

After reading all the news articles about Newry prices Im thinking we may go up and have a look. My original plan was to get wine shipped from Australia but Im not having much luck.

Im hoping to go for Prosecco or Australian sparkling for a toast
and it will be Aussie white and red to incorporate Australian into our irish wedding.
Im choosing the whote and H2B is choosing the red but havent worked out anything further. I lvoe Rosemount so might go for their chardy

Interesting slkAug2006... are you not worried about having the same brands of white and red so if you're each taking responsibility for one colour? We're finding it tough to pick a wine that we like both the red and white and were wondering if they could be different brands?

Where are you based slkAug2006? We came across a nice Aussie number called Boomerang... both white and red are nice... its top of our list at the mo anyway - if we can't go different brands.

I wouldnt get too concerned about different brands as red and white are so different types of wines anyway. Generally most people I know are one or the other!

Ive never heard of Bommerang, what state of Aus is it made?

Im in Dublin

Im immediately suspicious about wine exported from Australia with such a "dodgy" australian name, I just wondered.

It breaks my heart everytime I go to the offlicense seeing the price of ordinary Aussie wine such as Jacob Creek selling for twice the price you would buy it for in Australia but I guess thats life.

There are great wineries in most states of Australia. Traditionalists will always say the Barossa Valley in Sth Australia (near Adelaide) is the best. However Margaret River (Perth), Yarra valley (Melbourne) and Hunter Valley (Sydney) are all part of the new breed.

Im a big fan of a Chardonnay made by St Huberts in Yarra Valley but dont think you can get it here. Ive had loads of lovely bottles from Margaret River, far too many to name

We always go out to the Yarra Valley everytime we are in Melbourne. Domain Chandon which is the cousin of Moet is one of my favourites. You can get sparkling wine made by them over here - Green Point is the brand.

Im staying on the Pinot Grigio mostly over here although Ive had some really nice Chilean Sav Blancs recently..

we went to France. My dad goes over usually about twice a year to buy wine....you get fab bottles for the same price as you'd get plonk over here. We're having:

White: Hardys Chardonnay Medal Winner
Red: E. Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape
Champagne: Billecart Salmon

we live in the swan valley and are shipping our wine over. the white is a swan valley semillion and then the red is a margaret river shiraz. there are some very good wineries who will ship overseas. do a search in the margaret river tourist website.
corkage we are hoping to do a deal. atm it is 8e still and 12 sparkling.
we are actually thinkning of doig a sparkelling pink or a sparkling red as well as champagne for the toast. very very australian!

Wine for Wedding

Postby GroomsBrother » Fri Jan 14, 2022 10:41 am

As brother of the groom one task I have been given is to help locate some good value wine. I have found a really good importer in West Cork who sells wines to the public from his own cellar, i.e. he is not a wholesaler - I thought I would share this with the rest of you.

This guy directly imports really good quality wine from France - I have read up about many of his wines in Wine Mags, they are very well recommended. And the price... as almost all of his wines are not available anywhere else in Ireland I made comparisons between the prices in Cork versus the same wines on specialist wine web sites in the UK. Even allowing for the much higher taxes on wine and the currency exchange - the wine is still cheaper by far here. Its true, I thought this couldn't be possible, but it is - so I reckon that this is very good value all round.

Frankly, I'm amazed that more people haven't heard about this place already. It is only open about six months now, so I'm sure people will in time. Also, they are very nice people to deal with.

p.s. They also have Prosecco.
