Anyone not having wine at dinner??

Postby kitten_77 » Tue Jul 28, 2022 9:21 pm

i think everyohne expects wine but you can get around the "guzzlying" problem by just putting a two bottles of each on the talbes and thats it... no top ups. that way everyone shoudl get a glass or two and no more... which is more than enough in my books.

I'm really glad you got wine with your package as that is what we got as well. I think with you having the toasts before the meal you would have been able to do wine just them or wine with the meal but not extra for the toasts. If there was none I think they would have noticed but not if there was one option.

Also remember, the hotels are there for you and they need the business so will be more than willing to work you to keep your wedding so yuo might end up getting more with negotiation - worked with the wine:):)

Enjoy your planning:):)

That's something i was also worrying about but the venue we have booked charges 10euro to uncork a bottle or you can pay 8euro for a glass! :ooh so were just going to buy 10 bottles of cheap champagne and get them corked, the bottles are 1.5ltr and cost 7.99each (on special) and im ordering hibiscus flowers in syrup to put in the glasses to make them look well presented, To be honest i am only buying the drink for the toast because i was at a wedding where there was wine served and most people already had there drinks infront of them from the bar and didnt bother with the wine, which was later taken away by the waitresses. and as for the wine on our table, that was all drank by one guest because no one else wanted it. i know its what "people expect" but i am in the same position as yourself with regards to employment and people cant just "expect" you to shell out money on drink, you are already paying for the venue and the meal and if you want to buy a cheap drink to toast. or you could be bold and ask the venue to throw in the wine, (my mother already got the venue to drop it to a "good number" and got us 200euro knocked off!! ;o) ) Good luck on your big day! :wv

We're in the same boat, OH just got work and I am currently looking but I definitely would not leave out serving wine. I think as it would be unusual it would be the main thing people would take from your wedding. i know that isnt very nice, but you know what people are like. Why not buy wine from Aldi/Lidl. They do lovely bottles for €5.00 you could buy a box here and there. Best of luck with the job search!!!

Girls, was at the wedding fair today and a stand there called Straffan Wines were doing what I think is a great deal! They will deliver the wine to your wedding venue for free.

They charge €5 per person and for this you get 1/2 bottle of wine & glass of sparkling wine each. If you can get a good deal on the corkage it might be something to think about. They have the sparkling wine in screw top bottles so ur man reckons the hotel have to charge you the same for the wine and the sparkling wine!

I think its a great idea. The package we are looking at only includes 1 glass per person and if we take this off, they discount the package price by €5pp, so really we will be getting 1 wine and 1 sparkling wine free per person!! :hic :hic :hic :hic

Not sure of the name of the guy I spoke to, but the website is www.straffanwines.ie
