Choice of Main??

Postby Doc » Thu Jan 06, 2022 3:57 pm

Sorry Carol, but yes I think a lot of people don't like lamb; I know I don't but if you are offering a choice then it's okay, I just wouldn't recommend lamb if you're not giving a choice.

You're never going to find something that everyone loves.

I think I am going to go for rack of lamb as one of my choices. I wouldnt serve it if it wasnt a choice. I am also serving it as people have raved about it after having it at functions at the venue where I am having my wedding.

Carol,
the only reason i don't like lamb is because we used to have the sick baby lambs as pets
so i havent eaten lamb since, no-one in my family does-but my daddy smetimes sneaks it in if we g out for a meal and he thinks my sister and i wont notice!
a lamb rack sound like a v.impressive looking option. don't worry if you're having a choice, i don't know if many ppl dislike lamb?

The problem with lamb is that it's either great or awful. You know the way some food can have a middle ground...fine...but I don't think you have that with lamb.

I quite like lamb if it's cooked properly and a nice piece of meat but because it tends to be fatty it is so easy to get a not so nice piece.

If you're giving a choice then I think lamb would be okay but my experience of the no-choice gristly stuff masquerading as lamb...well it's the main thing I remember about that wedding.

Just my opinion

hi fancy pants,
it might not just be lamb - a lot of people just don't eat red meat for a variety of their own personal reaons. Personally I don't mind lamb but am not too keen on beef mainly because I think it is a very heavy meat and if cut too thickly (as sometimes happens at weddings) it can be awful.
It has a lot to do with the cut of meat (and the chef) on the day really and it can be good or bad irrespctive of whether it is lamb or beef or pork etc...
If combined as a choice with a white meat option such as the safe bet of Turkey and ham it takes out the risk for all concerned and everyone is happy.
Maybe you should prearrange a trial run of the wedding dinner and get dinner there one evening to help alleviate your worries on this - most hotels should offer this I would think.

Chicken or Beef?? ... Soup or Sorbet ?? The debate rages on.
We have decided to leave out the optional main. What do you girls think of the following choices?

Starter
Chicken Breast Salad with Sherry Marinated Apricots, sprinkled with Toasted Almonds and Creamy Honey Mustard Mayonnaise

Sorbet
Citrus Lemon and Smirnoff

Entree
Fillet of Irish Beef set on Rocket and Parmesan Mash Potato with Braised Roscoff Onion Marsala and Balsamic Butter Sauce

Desserts
Classical Italian Tiramisu set on a Coffee Cream Sauce accompanied with Honey Crunch Ice Cream

Yes... you're right abot the Tiramisu... I love it so much myself that I didn't even consider that other people might not.

Is anyone else going for a Sorbet? My H2b isnt to keen on the idea but a starter then soup then main might be a bit to heavy!

i think having sorbet instead of soup is a great idea, in our menu it is an extra not an either/or thing.
we are in winter so i didn't even consider that option!
(your menu is divine by the way!!!where are you having your reception?)
i think ppl may not like sorbet if it is freezing outside-what do you think?

If I was getting married in summer I would deffo have a sorbet instead of soup as I was at a friends wedding once during a heatwave(the one two years ago) and they served vegetable soup and I thought it was way too heavy for that day. As I am a winter wedding I will have soup but I havent decided yet which flavour. I really wanted to have starter, soup, sorbet, main course and dessert but h2b has stepped in on that one over the expense. I am having a choice of starter and main course and that will cost enough I suppose.

We had starter, soup, sorbet then main & dessert. Sounds like loads but the sorbet was fab for genuinely cleansing the palate... all the plates I saw were clean after every course!

I know it is a total rip off, we are having a choice for starter and main and it will be about 3.50 each time.
