We're having our Reception in the new Castleknock Hotel & Country Club. It's not yet open but is due for the big launch late next month.

I'm hoping the weather will be good ... you know how every year the first week that all the kids go back to school is usually a SCORCHER ... just when they cant enjoy it! Well our date is 8th Sept so hopefully it'll be good weather.

I think its still to warm then for soup. Anyway the more I think about it the more I'm loving the sorbet!

lamb or beef!

Postby Grainne20 » Tue Jan 18, 2022 2:41 pm

We are havinga choice.....however i see some of you think that lamb is not a good option...however was at a wedding last year a the beef was really tough and dried out. We tried both lamb and beef at the hotel we have chosen and the lamb was so much nicer than the beef. Also we have a lot of americans and maltese coming for the wedding so lamb will be something different for them.
It is a pure rip off charging extra for the choice. We did visit some places that only offered one course but were even more exp than the ones with one choice. But they were Druids Glenn and a place in Aughrim that are like 70 pp and they gurantee a good meal. However if the meat is bad or tough it doesnt matter how its cooked the meal will be terrible.
What ever you decide on its important to ensure to get a sample before the final decision is made!!!!!

we were all for having lamb with a choice of fish as well but one of my friends pointed out that as we are getting married in the autumn, lamb may not be as good as it can be tough. My friend got married in November and their hotel said to them that beef was a safer option as lamb can be a bit tough around that time. I hadn't even thought of this and am well pi**ed off as I love lamb! Am going to ask our hotel about it but like lots of others have said here, you can't please everyone and hopefully they'll go for fish if they don't like lamb!
we can't have beef as some of the guests will be hindus so don't want to offend them and the alternative would be chicken but I don't think the olds would like that...no easy option unfortunately!
good luck!

We offered a choice of lamb or chicken..plus there was a gorgeous mushroom risotto for the veggies...CAn't remember how much extra it was for a choice..€4?? and it was a rip off but just decided to go for it...food was amazing and people really enjoyed it.

Hi everyone, We are meeting the hotel this week to discuss menu's. We think we will proably go with Beef or Salmon. Its so hard to please everyone. There will also, be a veggie option. We were at a wedding last Friday and the starter was Duck, and a choice of Cod or Beef for the main course. Its was lovely, I agree with one of the other comments if the food is good it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. We are not haveing Lamb cause one sister in law doesn't like it. But H2B loves lamb!!

Menu

Postby September 2005 » Tue Feb 08, 2022 11:51 am

We are having Beef or Chicken and a veggie option. If we wanted a choice from all menus it would cost us about €5 a head. I hope people will be happy with the choice.

I would love to offer choice on our menu but the sensible H2B won't hear of it. I know there are quite a few non red meat eaters coming so I am hoping our hotel offers a good veggie alt.

As for the lamb I love Lamb and am thinking about just giving the top table an option on it otherwise we'll be beefing it up.

As the Weddings in August I am thinking that might be a little heavy especially if it is really warm.

We're going to offer a choice - it costs €10 in our venue, or €15 if you want a choice for all three courses....ouch!!

I think our choice will be Beef or Sea Bass for the main - although we will be choosing between Beef & Lamb. I agree with those that would advise against having Lamb without a choice. I really don't like lamb and know a lot that don't. I think one meat and one fish is a good choice though - as the majority will find something they like from that!

beef / turkey and ham and salmon

Postby Summer06 » Thu Feb 10, 2022 1:23 pm

Hi, We cant decide either on the main course
But -
Starters: Hot chicken and salad or Egg Mayo (for the older guests)!
Soup: Veg - good old staple!
Main: Beef or Turkey and Ham and Salmon
(Actualy would save quite a bit of money with t&h option, i love turkey, its my fave, but does it look a bit mean when compared to beef - dont' know what to do?)!
Desert: Flaming baked alaska for the wow factor and something for the older ones again - prob. apple cake and cream or stg. like that
THen of course tea and coffee and a few old mints!

Just don't know what to pick t&h or beef (were thinking lamb originally, but have been put off that by a lot of people and htis thread too!)
Meeting with hotel on sat to pay deposit and finalise menu's - any helpful advice out there?

And finally, we are getting a full choice of 2 ful lmenu's for no extra cost - think we did really well here judging my the prices above. The first hotel we tried was charging extra as well - glad we picked this one in the end!

I really can't belive the charges hotels are placing on menu options ours was origionally €1.50 per choice but they later dropped all of these charges (after some good arguements - before we booked them!)
I am not personally a fan of Lamb, but I think most like it. You could go with someting safe like chicken as a choice (?)

Hi there

Was just hoping you could advise me on whether this menu is 'safe' or not. Would hate to have to listen to elderly guests moaning about the bad food! -Also thought that it would be nice to let my parents participate in the wedding planning by letting them pick menu. My father doesn't drink at all and my mums tipsy after a glass of wine, so I guess the meal is the only fun they get at weddings :)! -Of course mum doesn't like beef and dad hates chicken  !

BTW- late september wedding so, the sun could be shining or it could be blowing a gale!!

Choice of 2 starters
soup (prob simple old cream of veg)
seafood cocktail

Choice of main
chicken (think its with something like creamy mushroom and bacon sauce)
salmon (with lemon and white wine sauce)
veg option (don't know what it is yet!)

Dessert
fresh fruit salad
hot choc fudge cake with cream/ice cream

(YAWN!)

- I know this menu is quite simple and unadventurous, but parents are trying to convince me that its best to go 'safe' (and boring!) so there's something for everyone, inc. elderly relatives.

- As far as pricing goes, think my venue is really reasonable - E25 per head, and no extra charge for choices!

God above E25 per head, that is brilliant. And I bet the food will be lovely. That menu sounds fine, I am having chicken as well as one of my choices for main course. You can never please everyone.
