Re: Main course choice or not?
Yes. I'd definately prefer a choice but I know not everyone can afford it. If you're going with just one then i'd make sure to take the time to pick a really good one.
Re: Main course choice or not?
the trouble with only going for one is that you maynot be catering for a percentage of your guests etc... and at the end of the day they are guests and should be catered for also. so think a choice is much better.
Re: Main course choice or not?
I would prefer it. However our hotel (spain) doesnt do this, you need an exact number of meals for the day (some law there about cooking food fresh and having to be destroyed the same day of not used). So we send a menu choice with the invitations and people choose as they rsvp. Not ideal but sure what can ya do!

I think it's nice to have a choice but it depends on your budget. Our choice will cost an extra 6 euro a head which is a good few quid but i'd still prefer to have the choice.
Re: Main course choice or not?
To be honest, I don't think guests mind if there isn't a choice but would perhaps prefer if there was a choice.
Re: Main course choice or not?
Do a choice, we did and it went down well. Was at a wedding recently with no choice, and to be honest I didn't like the main course but had to eat it as no choice.

yes I defintily prefer a choice and consider it a must have at my own. Mind you I dont like red meat (like many others) and many people dont like fish so I think finding one main course that suits all would be very difficult. MAybe chicken but maybe thats a bit dull for a wedding?

I think if you aren't having a choice your only option is turkey and ham really. You couldn't have only red meat or only fish imo, at least this way there's a choice of two meats in one meal.
Unless your hotel is willing to do something totally different. Re: Main course choice or not?
I would have said the opposite!! If you only have 1 main i'd go for a really good fillet steak. I HATE turkey and ham.
Re: Main course choice or not?
I don't think you could just have steak though, lots of my family wouldn't eat steak or red meat, i'm not crazy for turkey and ham myself but at least you'll have a red meat and a white meat in one dish.
Re: Main course choice or not?
I suppose it depends on your guests really. My family would always pick the steak option no matter what else was on the menu! Personally i think turkey and ham is really boring for the only option.
Re: Main course choice or not?
Its nice to have a choice but not essential. Obviously if there is no choice you would have to go for something most people would eat so chicken or beef?? I hate fish, and don't eat lamb and I know at some weddings thats what the choice was so my point is you will never please everyone anyway so do whatever suits you. If somebody really can't eat what you have on the menu the hotel will usually rustle them up something they can eat...once its not an advertised choice for everybody....do whatever suits you!
