we have to arrange our menu tasting for this month.
wondering how it works
do you short list or do the hotel decide what dishes.
thinking of bringing the parents-
anyone any tips or what to expect
are you charged for bringing extra people?

Hiya
We did our tasting last year.
They e-mailed us the menu and asked us to pick 2 dishes from each course. I imagine that in most places they will ask you to pick a short list from their banqueting menu for your tasting.
We brought FH's mother along but didn't tell them in advance. They brought out extra cutlery and she tasted them with us (we just passed the plates around) but they didn't provide any extra portions. I imagine that if you bring along extra guests they might make a small charge.
Our tasting was quite informal, mostly because we were sharing plates and it was in the middlle of the day.I think some people make a night of it and have their tasting as a meal in the hotel.

I didn't really know what to expect either but it was good fun. We tasted lots of yummy food and had great banter about what our guests would like. You don't need to make any decision there and then. Our co-ordinator made a not of our choices after the meal but I think if you wanted and to take the pressure off you could tell them you would e-mail them the next day.

Enjoy!

We had more or less settled on our menu when we booked the room.
When it came to our tasting we arranged a date that suited us and we showed up at the hotel restaurant we were seated and they brought us over a copy of our menu so we could write down any comments we had about each of the dishes too hot/too cold more salt/less salt etc
We brought this home and met with our wedding co-ordinator and went through the full menu with us and all our comments.

On the night it was just the two of us and we got two bottles of wine along with the meal nothing was charged (though we were more than willing to pay for the wine - very strange walking out of a restaurant having been fed so well and not paying anything)
