We want to brew our own beer and cider and make one bottle for each guest at the wedding as our favours. I've sourced a place to do our own personal labels with our pics on them and all.

The hotel have said they want to charge us 3 euro corkage per bottle (330ml bottles). I'm sickened. We were so excited at doing this for our favours. I'm haggling with the hotel but it's not looking like they will go down in price.

why would they go down in corkage for your own cider and beer?

If you bring your own drink in to the hotel - less guests will buy from them - they need to supply glasses (and we all know that we complain if they are not perfect polished) - they need to look after the empty bottles - and have staff to work.

do you often go to the pub with your own drink and ask for a glass? I


It is a good idea as a favour but you need to think for the other perspectiv - 3 euro seams very reasonable -

Mollyamazing, maybe instead of putting the bottles at the place settings, you could arrange to have the bottles put in the guestrooms - therefore it could be considered a gift - then the hotel shouldn't necessarily be charging you corkage.

We got a personalised bottle of wine in our hotel room and a wedding before - I thought it was a lovely idea.

our reception is in the Riverside Park Hotel Enniscorthy and they dont have corkage charges :)

We viewed a hotel recently in Mayo and when we spoke with the co ordinator we noticed that the corkage was 9e she immediately came down to 3e without us even asking...I taught it was crazy at 9e a bottle and was ready to really haggle with her but I nearly fell over when she said 3e...its just goes to show they can reduce it if they want...

we decided not to go with that hotel in the end and have gone with a hotel in gal that includes the corkage in our wedding package...there was a summer punch reception on arrival and we asked for that to be left out as people like to either go straight to the bar or have a cup of tea or coffee...on leaving out the punch we asked for an extra top up of wine for the toast and they said no problem so were getting 3 pours of wine for each guest inc in the package at no extra cost...They have an extensive wine menu that we can choose from...we were very happy with this...one less cost...

I was really keen on booking a hotel that allowed corkage at a resonable price as I wanted to bring in our own wine which would be much nicer and cheaper than the usual house wine included in the package. We eventually found a hotel which we loved and got the corkage down from €8 to €5 to eventually only being €3 for the wine!

I didn't fancy the summer punch for drinks reception so negotiated free corkage for 30 bottles of sparkling wine for drinks reception instead, I'm thrilled. We have also decided to have bottled beers (for the guys) in a champagne cooler at the drinks reception and we will pay per consumption for these.

Haggle, haggle, no doubt we will end up spending money in other areas of the hotel, such as upgrading menus so its win win O-O
