Dont think its necessary at all & not worth the extra costs. I do like a choice on the mains but that's because I dont like red meat.

If you can afford it, its always nice but i don't think its necessary.
You just need to go for a starter that is a crowd pleaser.
We didn't have a choice and it was fine.

We're not having a choice of starter because, like u, we're having a separate soup course. We will have a veg option for the starter though but as far as i know the hotel provide this without charge anyway

I don't think a choice in starter is necessary. It is additional cost that is so unneccesary - it's only a tiny starter. I would think it is far more important to have a choice for the main course.

I think a choice for any course is nice. At the same time I wouldn't go paying extra for a starter choice though!

Thanks ladies,
We are having a choice of main and with a soup course, so
maybe it will be ok not to go with the choice of starter too.
Cheers for the help once again :thnk

Its up to you lovely
And will mainly depend on the cost i guess!
A choice is lovely on the day, but weigh up the pros and cons!

Our venue includes a choice of starter. It means we can choose one adventurous option which I'm delighted about.

Lets face it not everyone is going to like the starter, and even if you do have a choice, there might be people who do not like either of the two, thats just the way it is with menus.
I think its pretty normal to have no choice for starter, regardless of whether or not there is a soup course too.

If its bothering you, could you maybe ask to have no soup course and substitute this for a choice on the starter (at no extra cost)??

I would love to a choice on every course, but with prices costing between €5 and €10 per person to have a choice it just makes things more difficult!

We're allowed to have a choice of starter at no extra cost but I would not be paying for it. We're having a soup course also and I've no problem with not being offered a choice at a wedding. Out of the four courses, everyone will be well fed.

We didn't have a choice of starter and thinking back over all the weddings I have been to over the last few years I can't remember that had one and we never even thought about it, I don't think anyone expects it and its money you could use somewhere it might actually make an impression.
