Wine amounts!?!?!

Wine amounts!?!?!

Postby bettyh » Sat Feb 05, 2022 7:14 pm

Hi all, sorry i know this is an ongoing question, can't find the post I was looking for!!

Summer wedding about 170 guests, how many bottles of wine do you think I need? I would like to be generous and basically have glasses full throughout the meal.

We're thinking 60 bottles of champagne for the pre drinks reception. Thanks fro any suggestions

I think your hotel should be able to guide you on this. We have given them 200 as an approx number of guests attending ours. They have said for champagne/sparkling wine reception we should not have more then 40 bottles. Then for wine during meal they have recommended around 75. They said even at 75 we will probably have a bit too much! HTH!

We used 26 bottles of sparkling wine for the pre drinks reception and had 260 guests. You'd be amazed with the amount of people who don't bother drinking it.....the men usually head straight for the bar! Half bottle of wine per person during dinner is loads....that is more than a 'free pour'.

You should budget for approx half a bottle of still wine per person (170/2 = 85). Also for sparkling wine I'd recommend 8 servings per bottle, so to allow for a glass per person at your reception you'd need about 22 bottles (170/8 = 21.25).

While Champagne is prestigious (and delicious) I would recommend that you go with a less expensive option, like Prosecco or a Cava. Not everybody likes Champagne and it is a more challenging drink to enjoy than a simple (and sweeter) Prosecco! At my own wedding we used a 'methode traditionelle' bubbly, essentially a sparkling wine made in the same way as Champagne but using grapes grown outside the region....it's about a 1/3 of the cost.

We inviting 100 and are plannng on half a bottle of white or red per person and the same for champagne/sparkling wine. We're going to tell the venue to keep circulating the champers because I hate getting one skimpy glass of bubbly at a wedding and no more-I like my bubbles!! I don't think we'll use all the bubbly we're planning on but that can be taken off the bill at the end.

We're having about 180 guests and we're planning on having 80 bottles of wine & 25 bottles of sparkling wine for the drinks reception, I'd have more sparkling only I know half of my guests won't drink it
