Wedding Cake Question!

Hi Ladies

Have any of you heard before of people making their own wedding cake and then getting it professionally iced? I was hoping to do this to cut down on costs and checked with my local bakery but they said for Health & Safety reasons they don't do that, and said it would be difficult to get someone to just ice a cake that has'nt been made by them.

There have been a few threads on this before, you should find something if you do a search. From what I remember it didn't work out much cheaper as the icing was the most expensive part.

Discussed in above thread, icing and decorating the cake is the most expensive bit and some cake decorators wont do a cake they didnt bake themselves due to reason given and insurance reasons. However, some will, you usually just need to sign a disclaimer confirming you provided the cake.

We at cakebox will decorated your own fruit cake and chocolate biscuit cakes.
You would need to supply a picture of the cake you wish to have iced or you can call us.
I thought most wedding cake companys provide this service.

My cousin did this for here wedding an it worked out considerably cheaper, I can find out were she got it done if you like I think it was somewhere around the Wicklow/Wexford area (not sure if your anywhere near that area). They cake looked amazing though and no one would know it was home baked !!!
